But won't it also drive people away as people do get bored after a while, and start looking somewhere else. My honest opinion would be that if it ever came up to me and I had to wait, I would just close it.

Well obviously you wont put 30 seconds of waiting time, but something more like 5-7 seconds with a natural looking "loading" message. It works amazingly, people do really interact with the ads, see my results on the video!

It depends on your theme, as it will rely on the content "div" area.
