F.A.Q.

Question: Does it matter what niche your forum is in or do you discuss specific niches in which a forum would be better suited to make money? Will it Work For The Self Hdelp Niche?

Answer: I have a friend here who has a HUUUUGE self help forum. Its an Excellent Niche. Most Niches This Will Be Excellent For. I cant think of one that it wouldn’t work with!

Question: How Long Is the Content Going To Be?

Answer: Its got a ton of content already, but much of the teaching will also be in the discussion aspect so there will be a ton more too!

Forums are a Killer way to make money honestly.

Hi John
That's interesting. just a few questions
1. how is the class conducted? skype or email or support desk? Is it daily?
2. how long does it take to set up the forum and get some serious traffic?
3. you just need $10 to set up?
Thanks

@Cheng,

Great starting questions, and thanks for checking out my ad.

As to the first Question:

I have actually Created An Invisible Private Discussion Group Online For the Class With Several Discussion Boards On My Own Live Example Forum For Each Subject. I Have Also Set Up Some Boards For Live Demonstrations I will Be Doing With Ads, and Traffic Gen Strategies...

This way you guys can actually Watch Live And See How the Numbers Work For Yourselves!

We Will Interact And Discuss Each Lesson And Demonstration As We Do Them

As To Your Second Question:

It Should Not Take You Two Days To Set Up A Forum. Period. It's easier than a WP Site.

Last Question:

Correct. You can Set Up A Forum For 10.00 Easy (That does not include cost of domain name- Maybe another $10.00).

Hope this helps, if you have any more questions feel free to ask!

Hey John,

You have missed the guy above 2nd question. You only answered part of it:
"and get some serious traffic?" How long does it take. Does it involved more investment?
Hope to hear back from you.

This sounds really interesting but what if you can't participate at the class times? Will there be recordings? Associated documentation?

Thanks,

Great Question Greatzen. I have suscribed to The Class Boards So Each Time A New Question Arises I can get a Prompt on My Cell Phone. So you should be able to get answers in relatively real time for the most part, whenever a concern comes up. Unless Im sleeping or in a meeting.

I will be participating All Day long....in that way.

The initial content is there for everyone in text form and can be viewed any time of day..., but much of the of the teaching will be gotten from your participation in asking questions... And also from the live ad campaigns we will be doing...which will also be documented for those who are there in the moment.

This is great for me too, because our demonstration campaigns will be helping me build my own business as we go along. You will be amazed at how effective this stuff is.

Hope This Helps.

Thanks Morphius, I guess I did miss that.

It CAN involve more investment if you want to do things like paid ads... But it doesnt have to. We will be doing some of both (Free and Paid) and having effective results from both.

The simplicity is what will blow you away. Remember, Im a pretty simple guy. I even get made fun of for it- BUT I MAKE MONEY!

As far as generating a TON of traffic, it should not take long at all with the techniques I have described, some of them will blow you up with traffic OVERNIGHT...

But the main teaching is how to make MONEY, even if you dont have a large group at first. But you WILL!

I made 5k my first month with less than 500 members!

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask anything you want!

@ Morphius,

Rock on brother! Thanks. It will be great to have you.

I must admit, this is going to be alot of fun for me, because I know it inside and out, and I have really wanted to teach it. After two years of talking about telemarketing which is great, I want to share some other valuable things with you all! Just like Warriors of Old Shared With Me!

Hey John,
Without overdoing it, would it be feasible to scale things up to have more than one forum (in various niches) and have others help with moderation?

Im not pushing the forum here, just the exclusive private class in this case, although the forum is a BIG bonus...

However, yes, I think that would be appropriate. My forum is The Telemarketing Forum - Index

You wont be able to see the class when you go there because it is invisible to everyone but its members. Although I could easily block members of the class from even SEEING the rest of the forum with a few clicks. if it became an issue for anyone...

Forum magic is awesome!

On another note, lets give a nugget here....

You bring up something interesting, in this way:

"You are LOOKING at one of the ways a forum can make you money, at this very moment!"

As a forum owner, you can create exclusive classes and things of that nature on your forum. Having exclusive, secret, private classes that are hidden to all but its paid members, much like a membership site, only its more of a membership "Area" of your site, it's very easy to create this scenario within a few clicks on your forum.

This is only ONE of the ways a forum can make you a ton of money in a short time, if you can think past "adsense":

For example:

"I have only been marketing for 6 months and I just made my first $3.95! Im SOOOOO excited"

Ever heard that?

I often ask "Do you really want to be THAT guy?"

I want to teach you how NOT to be that guy!

So even in our WSO thread here, you just learned ONE of the monetization techniques of many that we will be revealing..

No more "How do I do classes?", no more "cumbersome webinars"... If you own a forum you have alot of control to do cool things like this.

An extreme example of this technique, with which you can make a ton of money even if you only have a FEW participants is this:

You could charge $1,000 for a class if you want to and and make 10k with only 10 students. The possibilities when you have a forum are almost endless. When you go to my forum as a free members you are only seeing part of the picture, and when you join a class its like the windows of heaven open and you see the bigger picture going on behind the scenes. Its very cool and Im going to teach it to you!

So you see, there are alot of ways to make money, even if you dont have 20,000 members.

OMG! How do adsense people wait so long for so little? I dont know. No wonder they go chase other bells and whistles so much with those kinds of strategies!

Hope this helps!

@ Jslim

If you say you are hitting a "dry" spell, then I assume that you have had some success along the way, so congrats on that.

Currently Im focused on two things, my forum, and my offline business. I have gotten alot of irons in the fire and have not been at my forum as much as of late, so I am reigning things back in. One of my goals is for my forum to do TWO HUNDRED thousand next year, and this year I have hardly worked in it at all, but the money keeps coming in, just not increasing much. I have realized that with a little more effort it could double, and so I am narrowing my focus to those two areas. Unfortunately , at this time I am not open to those types of JV's. I could go nuts on it, but Im feeling its a good time to place my focus back on my two main passions, offline and my forum!

Thanks for the offer though. We do have an export brokering section at my forum that I will let you in for free if you pm me there, just because I feel bad about saying no, but a "man only has time for one mistress, and that's got to be his farm".

Hey Jim Always good to see you. Again, hope you and Nancy are doing well, I really appreciate you two.

Yes its feasable, the guy I know that has a HUUUUGE spitual / self help forum has SEVERAL of them and he is a millionaire like Allen.

Luckily for you, Im too simple minded for that myself.

I say "lucky" because you can see that even the least complicated person can make 6 figures with a forum. I know alot of things but Im not much of a multitasker.

Again though, ALOT of people have several forums. I know another guy from right hwere on this forum whome I wont mention , who is a multi millionaire from a niche forum that you would never think of in a million years, and he has a couple of them.

For me, if I get too spread out I lose focus, which is why Im honing back in on just my forum, classes and my offline business.

Being that Im NOT real good with multiple things at once, its a very big bonus to me that I can house several different areas on ONE forum. It helps me focus.

I USE to have two forums, but I merged them into the one and just created an area WITHIN my current forum for the other... in fact it is the EXPORT forum that was mentioned earlier. It use to be its own site, but I brought it into my current forum to help me keep my work all under one roof.

Hope this helps Buddy!

-John

Are there any niches that DONT translate to this offer?

I own some automotive forums and that niche is really one where I would find it hard pressed to get people to pay big $ to be in a private section.

@KJN

Well yes, there are some GREAT monetization techniques for that. The above as I said is one example.

It was an answer to a guys question, but its only the tip of the iceberg!

Man if you already own a forum, then DO THIS! We can hash it all out in class and get that thing making money for you, so you can come back here and say "I made money off this!".

Im not interested in creating headaches for myself, so I wouldnt tell you this if I didnt know it to be true!

I want this class to come out PERFECT, so Im not going to encourage anyone to join that I dont believe in...lol

Yet, another thing that I have learned through this experience!

-JD

Ps. Would love to see a link, but if not thats cool. Totally understand.

I'm not usually one for hyperbole, but Holy Crap John, what a great, great offer. Assuming the monetization techniques are solid and dependable, I'm in.

One of my sisters in law whose daughter has Rhett Syndrome had asked me recently about setting up some sort of online platform for sharing thoughts and experiences with other Rhett parents. I didn't think a membership site was the route to go, so I looked into forums. Based on my research, they looked like they had potential but it was difficult ferreting out the various features of the various packages. Too bad I didn't have access to this training back then.

Also, I see a huge niche for local forums - even down to the local organization level, ie, the neighborhood cub scout pack or whatnot. The key, though, is the monetization.

I always like your stuff, John and your positive attitude is very contagious. So I am all in for this. My only concern is finding time for it because I am already doing many other things. But I can't pass up the valuable insight that John offers.

Also, I am an introvert by nature (which is apparently a hot topic these days hmmm possible forum idea?). So I was wondering how much interaction will be needed with your forum visitors to make this work?

Thanks,
Lawrence

How much time do you recommend we should allocate to running a forum on a daily basis? For example, is one hour a day enough to get any meaningful results?

Hey Lawrence! Thanks for the kind words. I stayed up pretty late last night (morning) on this and usually I would wake up from a night like that feeling pretty "groggy" but today I woke up with so much excitement to come back to this thread because I truly do look so forward to talking about these things, so you got me pegged man! Very enthusiastic about this! Thanks for joining!

Believe it or not, I am somewhat of an introvert myself. I deal well with masses, but Im not a one on one relationship builder much, I really dont care to answer my phone alot.... and even though I was once a telemarketing champion for years on end, I considered my time on the phone to be "non personal", it was really a zone that I would get into, and then I would turn it off at the end of the day and go home to my wife and not ever pick up my phone.

I enjoy giving speeches to rooms, and working with people to succeed, but on the personal side Im pretty introverted.

In fact, in my younger years as a traveling musician, my band hated me, because I didnt really go out and party after a gig with everyone. I would "turn it on" when I was supposed to, then when it was done I just wanted to be with my family, not out on the town.

Said all that to say this:

Building the telemarketing forum was perfect for me because of that.

Building a forum is a way for an introverted person to succeed no doubt. You have specific subject and knowledge that you want to share, but you cant be dragged off into all kinds of other schmoozing and all that stuff... You love your people, but you dont necessarily have to be going out playing golf with anyone, or meeting at the country club and doing all kinds of pretentious things...

Back to the music thing... I never went out and schmoozed like alot of others...it was just like this "Did you like my performance or NOT?" Im not going to sit around and drink with you all night for a deal...

Im, believe it or not an introvert....again this all makes a point: "I love my forum because it allows me to be that, and share things I want to share, and the knowledge that I know like the back of my hand, but not have to be OVERLY social.

I think online marketing is a chance for a person who doesnt like to schmooze and things, who potentially could not succeed at other types of sales because of that, to actually EXCELL in their field at the things they love....

Maybe face to face sales doesnt work for you because unlike me, you cant turn off and on that "zone"... Maybe you have failed at other things because you are so specifically focused that you are a master at your subject, but you havent mastered all the OTHER things that success required.... All you have to do in your forum is share the knowledge that you are PASSIONATE about, and love to share, without all the other stuff, and people love you for the things that you love, and not all the rest of that stuff!

Sorry if this was a long answer, but it was an AWESOME question!

People even here at WF sometimes hate on me just like my band did, because I dont spend hours on the phone chatting, and I hardly open my skype- I keep everyone at arms length in that sense, even though there is a ton of love- but I dont HAVE to do those other things.... I just share what people came to my forum to learn, and I dont mind doing that at all. I could share on these subjects for hours, even in my UNDERWEAR if I want to...I dont even have to get dressed up for anyone...and thats perfect!

Yes I think this is perfect for an introvert!

Introverts still have LOVE, and you can share plenty of love with your people on a forum, and its beautiful for both parties because it doesnt come with all the other entrapment... lol

I know a guy who loves dungeons and dragons, or wizards of warfare, something like that- He NEVER talks, but if yo0u misquote a rule on the game or misquote something about the history of it- he will talk for an hour straight and not shut up telling you everything from how the game is played, to the biography of the game creator, even introverts can talk about their "passions".

On your other question, and this is also for "Francois" (BTW thank you for participating Francois):

I think at first you need to be prepared to spend three hours per day or so, the best thing to do is to subscribe to your threads, that way you get an alert when someone posts... in ANY business its going to require some effort to succeed and dedication. You cant build a six figure business without being more dedicated than the guys who have a 4 figure one... but again, its something you feel passionate about, so if you dont LOVE posting and participating in forums, then this may not be for you.

Its going to take 3-4 hours per day at first, but then, how much is success worth to you?

It has to be worth it.

Hope this answers your great questions guys!

-JD

Ps. Back in the days of the music industry, when I didnt go out and hang out.... I was the one who wrote the songs, and did the main creative work., and I was the reason the other guys got pay checks... so I think that being introverted and focused , and maybe less social, is the REASON why some are more successful than others. I dont think its a weakness- ALOT of successful people keep others at arms length, and are somewhat inaccessible, outside of their mode of operation.

I have enjoyed posting this, and YOU will enjoy posting about the things that drive you too, and you will attract a market that is interested in hearing those things...and it wont seem so much like "WORK".

I make six figures for doing what Im doing this very moment... how hard is that?

You dont see any special mastery in this post, just "sharing" my life experience, which , like an old man sitting on a bench talking about the old days, comes naturally.

Again; I make six figures for doing what you see me doing right now- Just talking about my passions!

Chipster, here is the rule, if you want to be a part of the forum, you are on the mailng list. If you want the content, then it wont kill you to get a couple of emails now and then with as much as we share for free... So my disposition is, if you dont want to be on the email list, then cancel your account- Just like aweber.

Thats fair enough. I send out about 4 - 5 emails max per month...maybe 6 on a VERY RARE month and NONE on some other months... Most people dont mind at all. Only a rare person here and there is really bothered by it.

You have some control - unsubscribe to the forum.

Much love chipster, and no hard feelings. BTW you are missing a KILLER class!

Guys and gals, thats the way I handle that. If you want my content, but dont want my emails...then dont be a member! Simple as that. I dont email that much.

Every forum owner has different policies and thats mine.

-JD

Ps. Guys and gals,

This was a good opportunity to teach something. Im proud of my content, and my policies, and you should be too. be firm, yet loving - no apologies. You cant please everyone, or else you wont be YOU ( Thanks Paul Myers ! )

John

this sounds like a great plan

except for the fact that you have the attention span of a squirrel LOL

so I think I will pass on this and just wait for you to come out with products that you have sat down and completed

best of luck and make sure you put some away for the future instead of spending it all in one place

I can smell a fake a mile away

and folks

this guy John Durham... is the real deal. guys with this much street experience that actually contribute to this board are very RARE

so be like a sponge and ABSORB!!!

John,

The attention span of a squirrel - I'm still laughing. We had a pet squirrel and when it came time for his peanuts his attention span was all dinner hour. Couldn't shake the little bugger.

That's all I know about squirrels btw. Today we get nightly visits by two families of raccoons. They bring all the kids, about ten total, to munch on the cat food. You should see it. A real riot. Oh yeah, and they wash their food in a pool my wife set up for them.

I wonder if a forum on squirrels and raccoons would go over. I have the visual evidence to prove the raccoons. The squirrel was long before cell phones. I ain't hijacking your thread I'm dead serious about this. If I knew how to paste the video into this post I would.

Appreciate any answer you care to give.

Tom

Man if you already own a forum, then DO THIS! We can hash it all out in class and get that thing making money for you, so you can come back here and say "I made money off this!".

Im not interested in creating headaches for myself, so I wouldnt tell you this if I didnt know it to be true!

I want this class to come out PERFECT, so Im not going to encourage anyone to join that I dont believe in...lol

Yet, another thing that I have learned through this experience!

No I havent actually. My forum is part income producing, and also part idealistic for me, so its not really something I see as a flipping opprtunity, aside from that, nobody could run my "own" forum but me because of the special nature of it.

However I can see the huge potential of something like that.

@Tom,

There is only one thing I know about squirrels, aside from the fact that my grandfather use to eat their brains...(Yuck) ....and the one thing I know is an important thing to know: "Even a blind squirrel gets a nut"... Even BLIND squirrels do better than some humans with full sight

Enough "Action" toward success in and of itself will create success without any other skills whatsoever!

I have a subject in mind for a forum, but there are already a few established forums that rank on the front page for most of the key words I'm looking at for the subject.

Will this course help with this or would you recommend going for lower hanging fruit?

Thanks for the help, John.

I would recommend going for whatever subject makes you passionate. Allen Says loved money making ideas, I love to teach telemarketing, another guy loves mustangs... You will be wanting to participate in your forum alot particularly for the first few months, so dont go for any subject that you cant expound upon freely.

I dont think in terms of "lower hanging fruit" really... I just see a goal I want with whatever fruit is in my hand or my eye, and I move toward success till I get there.

Lower hanging fruit is almost a myth these days, and its more for people who dont know the principles of success that the sale is made in the mind of the "salesman".

Its a good question you ask, because this is not HANDS OFF, you will have to be involved with your forum, and if its on a sibject you know nothing about, then you arent going to have much to share there and it wont be very dynamic.

I was reading an article today that people put up dry articles based on keywords, using words and paragraphs that have no real life in them or personal touch, and google is getting savvy to that. The best thing you can do is find something you WANT to start a discussion group for- and the people who do that will have the most successful forums.

There are alot of hands off ways to make money, but I dont think a forum is one, at least at first- You really need to nurture your people and that is going to require knowledge on whatever your subject, and even a little love for it in my opinion.

Hey John,

This looks like an awesome and unique opportunity that I'm having a hard time passing up right now

Just a few questions...

Of the 6 figures per year, where does the money come from normally? I don't see any ads on your telemarketing forum, so I'm just curious if it's mostly from selling from the forum or selling ad space or Adsense or something.

I was thinking of using my Internet marketing list to grow a forum in some kind of sub niche of Internet marketing. Think that'll work?

And finally... Handling forum spam seems like It would be a nightmare. So you have to hire people to do it or what?

Hey Jason! Good to see you.

I think your internet marketing list would be a great way to start a forum, and your forum will grow your list even QUICKER, and also makes it more responsive because you are interacting with them in a more personal way.

As far as forum spam, I use SMF as a platform , with that program you can set your registration process up with a few clicks so that no bot can get through, you can also download "MODS" to your site from SMF which double check peoples ip addresses and email addy's prior to letting them through, if they are flagged as a known spammer, then it doesnt let confirm them as members until you approve them, otherwise they can go on in.

As far as monetization. I do have one banner on my forum and the company pays me 4k per year for that, plus I get a cut of any sales...

There are other monetization techniques I use, but if I gave them away here I'd have to shoot me! lol

Hello John,

I had thought about a starting a forum a few years ago, but never followed through due to the lack of any real training available. I am kicking myself now after listening to your story. This sounds like exactly what I am looking for. I'll be in soon.

Thanks

Didn't mean to intrude here but I'm not sure where to post this at this point. I tried contacting you by PM and by way of the "Offline Brat Pack" thread and still haven't heard a reply for days now but I figured you'd be checking into this thread because there's a sale that's ending soon.

I bought the "Offline Brat Pack" WSO last week and just recently deleted my browser history so now I can't find the page with the downloads. I looked back over my emails but it seems you didn't send an email with the download link. I PM'ed you my paypal email and transaction ID as well.

Ahh...okay. The forum flagged you for some reason. Will fix now.

Edit. Okay you are good Basse, went ahead and upgraded you too. You should be able to see the class entitled "6 figure forums". Also please join our skype group. You will see a thread for that.

Good to have you!

Unfortunately John is nothing but a crook. He took money from people and preformed absolutely nothing. I asked him for my money back, which he agreed and never refunded. I have 11 email contacts of his students; they are all pissed off and are looking for him. After numerous attempts to get refund, we have no choice but to go public with it. I tried really hard to get him to corporate with us, without successes. People be carful before you do any transaction with him.

Horrible, awful, I was cheated out of money. I am all with you. This guy should refund us all. I thought this forum had some good people, but I was wrong. He took my money, never delivered anything. I am stressed for money right now. I was very hopeful with this class, and now I am out of money, and I really cannot afford to lose more.
