Normally I outsource this stuff as I am rubbish with images, and no matter how many gimp/photoshop tutorials I watch I just do not get it!

Using the Ezcover software was really easy, even for someone like me who doesn't read instructions (or ask directions).

I have a couple of ideas on how this could be used to make money reasonably quickly locally.. See if they work out or not...

Thanks Lee for letting me have a review copy, and I hope you don't mind I am making cash with it already.

Cool. Have been thinking about what I want my latest cover to look like - now I can go play with it and get the inspiration for finishing the book LOL.

A quick question for you - what is the resolution of the resulting cover? I will want to use it for my CreateSpace version of any book I publish, so that's an important consideration.

thanks

I'm just wondering . . .

What does this product do that can't be done in any other graphics interface like Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, Gimp, PS Elements, etc?

Would there be a benefit here for someone that already owns a graphics program?

Thanks for sharing.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for asking. It is just really easy to use. Many people find PhotoShop and Gimp have quite a learning curve.

The beauty of the eBook Cover Maker Pro is you can go as simple or sophisticated as you like. So you can make super simple covers or you can play with it and get into more detail.

If you already own one of those programs, the benefit would be that the software is geared specifically to creating eBook cover images - so you would just need to go through the tabs to add in the text and images. It's very easy and fast to use. For example, people who use our banner software say that they use it instead of Photoshop because they can create banners before Photoshop finishes loading.

Thanks.

I often make my covers first. It really does provide inspiration. Plus it is fun!

On the resolution, the software developer Jim Coutu says "The DPI on a 625 x 1000 pixel image is 72. However, this can be changed to whateverDPI you need using software like IrfanView (free)."

DISCLOSURE: I am an affiliate for this product. I just mailed the following to my list.

Your Book Cover MUST Catch The EYE Of The Buyer!!

Important in marketing your books and getting the sale, your title and book cover are perhaps the two most important pieces to the puzzle.

Especially when readers are browsing lists of books when shopping, the book cover will either catch the attention of the reader or the book will be ignored!!

Books that are ignored don't get purchased.

I think as marketers, we tend to ignore the importance of creating a book cover that grabs the buyer by the lapel, simply because we are writers, not graphic artists...

I know in my case, I think highly of my writing capabilities, but not so much with my ability to create graphics...

But the truth is that when we have the right software tools at our fingertips, creating book covers that sell books is fairly straight-forward and simple.

Over the last year, I have told you about a number of book templates that we can use with PhotoShop and web services that make really simple book covers... But today, I want to tell you about, "eBook Cover Maker Pro".

This is software that you download to your computer and install, and it has been designed specifically to help book marketers create outstanding book covers that will definitely attract the attention of book buyers.

Actually, since the "original" book cover will be 72dpi, I doubt I'll be able to get it up to 300, even using irfanview or any other sw - that's because the sw won't make the pixels more dense. I may try it anyway to see what it looks like, but I doubt I'll be able to get it up to 300. If I can get it to 150, it might end up okay. Even though CreateSpace recommends 300 (and a minimum of 200), I found my 150 dpi cover was acceptable for what I was doing with my last physical book..

This product will still be very useful, however, in creating Kindle covers and other web properties. With a little bit of playing I was able to create a simple good looking cover using my own photo in about 15 minutes.

I'm looking forward to playing with it even more!

Hi Lee!
Congrats on a great Kindle cretaor's product - I love it, so many people really don't want to touch Photoshop or GIMP - which is understandable. If you're not on those types of software programs day-in day-out, it can get tough just to do basic edits, so this is an amazing quick tool, and good on you for putting up on the WSO at that price - great for newbies, or more experienced who want a quick Kindle Cover Creator Program!

Thanks Kate!

And quick tip, in addition to eBook covers it can also be used to make banners and other graphics for websites etc. There are pre-set sizes you can select for eBook covers or you can customize. For banners just click on "custom size" and plug in the size you want. Then add in text, images, shapes etc.

Lee, this eCover software is a winner as you have provided many more features for us to use at a click of a button. I can change the size, the font, the color (brightness and contrast) just by moving the tabs. Also you are making it available for us to make them easily for Kindle, Smashwords, Nook, and ipad.

Wow!!! 2 Thumbs Up!

I guess the question I have to ask is what is the advantage of this software? I usually edit/create all of my images with Gimp. If that software is free and I can look up the dimensions for ebook covers and Kindle covers, then add in a background image and overlay whatever text I want in any font, what advantages does this software add?

I'm not knocking the WSO, just trying to see the value that it has to offer over an already free program!

Thanks,

K.B.

Many people find Gimp and Photoshop to have a pretty steep learning curve.
This is super simple and you can make awesome covers quickly!

One thing I love about it, is I am always finding new little ways to work with it. Take a look at the "Juice Mania" cover which you can see in the examples in the sales thread (first cover).

To get the effect of the two balanced stripes, I used the add shapes feature (Shapes Tab). Make the shape as large or small as you want. I extended it across the width of the cover by tweaking the "size".
Then I clicked on "Shape Fill Image" (Shapes Tab - button on right hand side) and added a photo. The software automatically resized the photo to fit the shape - so cool. Next, I added text on top of it. Voila - a rich band of color that adds interest to the cover.

If you have a photo that is dark, such as photo in the "Sexting" cover, you can make your text stand out with a band of contrasting color. To do this, add a shape in the color of your choice. Then click to make it transparent. (Shapes Tab - transparency) You can go very transparent or not so much. Then add your text on top of it. You can outline or make your text 3D also so it pops!

You can also go super simple. The "Wild Desires" cover took just minutes to make. I loaded a photo, picked a pretty font and a contrasting font color to outline it in. Bam - gorgeous cover fast!

It is really a matter of how much you want to play with it! It is a LOT of fun!

But remember you want to spend most of your time writing books!

I love it when a review copy makes me cash!

I just did some covers for someone, all covers the same except for one line on each. $100 earned in a couple of hours..nice

Lee was kind enough to allow me a review copy of this software, and I've enjoyed putting it through its paces.

I found it easy and intuitive to learn, and in under an hour created the sample cover for an imaginary e-book attached below. Not bad for a complete design novice, if I say so myself...

I like the fact that, unlike some recent cover creator WSOs, E-book Cover Maker Pro is a program you download and run from your PC, not web-based. I'm also impressed that you can save projects on your PC for further editing in future, and publish covers in a number of different graphics formats.

One other thing I easpecially like about E-book Cover Maker Pro is its versatility. As well as e-book covers, you could easily use it for banners, logos, blog headers and more. I can see myself getting a lot of use from this handy software.

Overall, in my view this is a powerful, versatile and easy-to-use tool that's well worth snapping up at the current special offer price.

Finally, if anyone would like to see my full blog review (which includes a larger version of my sample cover), they can do so on my writing blog. Apparently I am not allowed to link directly to this from here, but you should be able to find a link on my profile page if you so wish. Sorry for the inconvenience!

[Full transparency - I received a pre-release copy a few weeks ago to 'experiment with', so I did not buy the current package.]

No one is going to mistake me for a great artist, graphic or otherwise. By training, I'm an engineer. And let's face it - blueprints and schematics don't set hearts racing, right?

Enter eBook Cover Maker Pro.

Even with less-than-complete pre-release documentation, I was able to take some stock images I had, and create 2D covers that stood out. A couple of hours of playing "I wonder what happens if I try this" (the offer is correct - it IS fun), and I had the process down to where I felt like I was in control.

This is not Photoshop, or even Gimp. It's what we engineers call an "elegant" product. It does what it was designed to do, and does it well. They could add a ton of features, but that isn't the point. They've got the program to the point that it does what it promises without much left to take away - the definition of an elegant design.

I won't make my fortune designing covers for ebooks. I will, however, sell ebooks with attention-grabbing covers without having to learn a complicated program or trust to the whims of chance with an outsourced contractor.

Thanks and good luck with your WSO...

Will there be a Mac version in the future? I don't run any Windows on my Mac.

This sounds like a great product! I use Photoshop Elements, and while I can eventually manage to get done what I want, it is a huge learning curve, especially since I don't use it very often. And I can waste hours trying to get something done.

I'll buy the first Mac version that is available!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this Becky. Will take it into consideration.

For right now: Requirements: eBook Cover Maker Pro works on Windows (XP, Vista, Win 7, 8). If you have a Mac, you can use the software if you have installed VMware Fusion or Parallels and Windows.

Hi Chris,

The size of the download is under 10 megs, so it's not too big.

I received a review copy, and -- to be honest -- I wasn't expecting much. I've tried several WSOs that promised me easy Kindle book covers, and they were so disappointing, I generally declined to review them.

The software I actually bought..? I think I returned almost all of them for a refund. They just didn't impress me.

This cover designing software is different. It's different in a fun way. It also delivers quality. I've quickly created several Kindle book covers that I actually like. For the price, this looks like a very good value. And, I agree with the previous reviewer who described this as an elegant product.

I'm so busy with my current books, I haven't had time to give this product a full test-drive. But, what I've seen so far is much better than the other cover-designing programs I've tried.

Be sure to read the instructions. This software does a lot more than it might seem to, at first glance.

Beginners will like how easy it is to create good, simple covers with little effort. (The software resizes graphics better than any cover software I've tried... by a lot.)

People like me, who are accustomed to Photoshop, may decide that this software makes quick cover designing much faster. One-click resizing, moving graphics around easily, and access to all of your stored fonts... this is a thoughtfully designed product!

All in all, excellent value for money if you're designing your own Kindle book covers.

Well, I just finally broke down and bought ebook software 2 days ago, after many hours of hunting. BUT I just bought this one -- and I'm gonna return the other!!
I make eCovers in PSE, but was searching for something specifically aimed at these so I don't waste so much time. Hopefully after the learning, I can make covers quickly. Thank you, thank you!

A few questions:

1. Does it support layers?
(and loading/saving .pdf files)

2. Which image formats con be loaded into the programs?
(.jpg .png .bmp .tiff - you name it)

3. In which format/s the finished cover can be saved?

4. Assuming that you can load an image in a format (e.g. .jpg) and then you can save it in a different format (e.g. .jpg) this program could be be used also as a converter.
Is that possible? If so, what about the quality loss during the conversion?

5. Which is the maximum size - in pixel - that is supported by the program?
As a parallel reasoning to the previous question:
Is it possible to load an image of a certain dimension, resize it, and than save it so in a different size?

As a last point, I'd like to stress a point:
The least that you can say is that there is a lot of different format to take into account when designing a cover for eBook publishing due to the different models of eBook readers.

Do you provide with your product (or the bonus) a guidance to help us to choose the right format and size according to the usage and the publisher the cover is meant for?

Hi.

Answers are below....

1. Does it support layers?
(and loading/saving .pdf files)

Yes, it supports layers. However, it does not support creating pdf or psd files.

2. Which image formats con be loaded into the programs?
(.jpg .png .bmp .tiff - you name it)

Gif, jpeg, bmp, png

3. In which format/s the finished cover can be saved?

Gif, Tiff, Png, Jpeg, Bmp

4. Assuming that you can load an image in a format (e.g. .jpg) and then you can save it in a different format (e.g. .jpg) this program could be be used also as a converter.
Is that possible? If so, what about the quality loss during the conversion?

Yes, you can save in a different format. The quality really depends on the image format itself. You obviously won't see any better. But the format can get worse in the case where you save a jpeg as a gif and the colors get limited to 256.

5. Which is the maximum size - in pixel - that is supported by the program?
As a parallel reasoning to the previous question:
Is it possible to load an image of a certain dimension, resize it, and than save it so in a different size?

In theory, there is no max, however, it can be difficult to work on larger images. You can load images and resize them, however, you would have to re-place the items on the image - it's not a one button resize. You would have to re-center text for example.

We list the default image sizes for the major players, but this is changing all the time - so we have set it up so any size can be entered. We do have links to sizes on our resources page - eBook Resources | eBook Cover Maker Pro

Thanks.
