Not really, I believe the CPU used in the starter plan is Xeon E5345 which was released in Q1 2007, more than 7 years ago, so it is considerably slower than newer CPUs. Nowadays these sell in second hand markets like nothing.

There are people that sell $5/month dedicated servers FYI.

The starter plan actually needs to be updated. The current hardware for this sale is for 2.50GHZ procs (Xeon L5420). Yes, these are older but, newer than E5345.

I have never seen a host selling $5 a month dedicated. Could you PM me a link? I thought our offer is one of the best out there considering we put SSDs in the servers.

Please message me with info on inexpensive dedicated servers. My issue is my Hostgator reseller is too slow. I only use it for my sites and capture pages but it takes too long to load. I need something that loads faster. Thanks

For the benefit of everyone -

To give a better idea of the performance of these machines. We use similar hardware for shared servers with cPanel.

A base model (16gb of RAM and 8 Cores) will hold around 100 sites easily. These numbers are based on normal usage. Our next model, will be able to hold around 300. Some of our customers store upto 500 comfortably. This is mainly based on disk space and bandwidth requirements. If you have a really popular site that uses more disk IO, process, or memory then the numbers vary.

We use SSDs in all of our server to speed up application that can be heavy on disk IO such as WordPress sites. Using SSD in turn with server side caching really speed up the performance of WordPress. Now it is more important than ever to have your site load fast because it effect your google ranking. Google PageSpeed

To give an idea of how these compare to shared account at companies like HostGator or HostDime. They will use similar hardware to store between 500 - 1000 sites per server. This is what cause your sites to load slow the longer you are a customer because more and more customers get added the machine until the host decides to make a different server active. As the amount of the sites increases on a machine increase your probability of a 'noisy neighbor' does as well. A noisy neighbor is another user on the machine that uses up more resources than allocated or uses their resources to the max. On dedicated hardware your site will not suffer from that effect because you will be able to control what sites are using your resources as well as decide when it is time to expand again as your site popularity grows.

Unfortunately, cPanel is an additional charge but, we do suggest ordering centOS / cPanel if you are not familiar with server administration. We will install and order the license for you when the server is setup.
