Hi Warriors,

I am a marketing consultant and I do a little bit of web design. A lot of my clients are asking for me to provide hosting. The thing is, whilst I can design websites, servers are not my strong point!

I build sites in wordpress and was wondering if there was an alternative where you don't have to worry about things like doing server maintenance!

Any suggestions on the most hassle free way to host websites for clients would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

I am hosting with BullionHost.com they have a nice quality record since 2006, excellent IT support they have fixed things for me directly contrary to Hostgator that every time kept sending me to watch never ending videos.. they asked me for the credentials wand fixed the issue for me or my client, if that is the kind of support you need then this might be a good solution for you.. They also can host your customers offshore since they mantain Data centers with servers in UK, AU, USA and even Bulgaria, etc.

    I hope it helps!

You can start with reseller hosting or Managed VPS hosting were server management part is take care by your web hosting provider, if you are looking for managed Hosting provider for reseller hosting you check out :

    Web hosting UK

    OR

    Rshosting

On of the most reliable Hosting provider for guys like us, I also started the same way, since 4 years I dont have to worry about hosting part and client issue as this guys are available 24x7 and they do help me from migration to other technical issues.

I will strongly suggest stay away from godaddy or hostgator wont get the service you are looking for.

Go with managed VPS and you do have to learn more about WHM in order to create cpanel accounts for your clients as the support for most VPS manage accounts only will go so far to support you. If you need someone to manage the whole VPS for you I am sure there are warriors out there that would do it for a few bucks a month. I manage a few myself for warriors.

What you need is reseller hosting. Also, keep in mind that while a server may be managed, it does NOT always mean no maintenance required. Not all providers handle maintenance & other tasks automatically without you asking first.

    Agreed.
Reseller hosting is what you need here. That's your alternative here.

Also: semi-dedicated/enterprise hosting is an actual VPS alternative for single sites.

    Hi Chris.

Here are suggestions for you and for the other developers with similar question:

Hosting type: In your situation reseller hosting should be a perfect solution. Separate hosting accounts for separate projects(sites), no server maintenance from your end, many features, low price.

Hosting provider: Look for experienced hosting company that works in this business at least for a few years.
If you see obvious overselling ("unlimited" resources etc.) then check carefully for "hidden" limits (for sites/mails/DBs/files/etc.). Also, reliability, support and security are probably more important for you and your customers than excess space and bandwidth.
Try to send the same list of questions to companies you would like to check and compare the replies. Public forum/community where you can see real company and user conversations is a plus.

    Hosting features:
Since you build sites in Wordpress, auto installer should be very useful for you. See if host provides it (check Softaculous and Fantastico for example).
Few more things to look for if you are developer: Multiple PHP versions, cPanel/WHM, SSH, Off-site/Remote backup.
You can also ask if hosting provider is willing to add some features/modules and recompile PHP+Apache for you. Since you are looking for VPS alternative this could be important.
