Okay, if I have not already mentioned I am a nube and doing the D/D on a bloging and selling site. Got a good lead from Mark Maz if I need someone to do it for me but still looking for the "Try it myself" solution. I ran into Site Build It and they have a pretty good formatt it seems. I am big on acronyms for planning and they have CTPM
C: content
T:traffic
P presell
M: monetize

Apparently, they have everything you need to create the blog/create traffic/then sell.

Question 1: Has anyone used this? (30.00 month)

Question 2: Can I not do this in Wordpress? Seems they are for blogging only unless I point WP blog at a website I create. Guess I was hoping that WP had hosting too?

Question 3: Last question..... I promise (laugh) What companies like "site build it" is--in your good opinion-- worth the money?

My end goal is to keep all of it somewhat contained and uniform so I can focus on writting and new content.

Thanks in Advance!

  • zenmn,

I was really considering Site Build It! a few years ago. I got all excited and thought the world of it and was also impressed by their model. I also saw a handful of people in the market I was getting into using Site Build It and figured well it must work if they are using it. Besides, they were making a lot more money than me

Now I'm not going to say that it doesn't work. Truth is I never tried it, so I can't say firsthand. I looked for some more advice about my situation at the time and was told by someone I highly respected that Joomla or WordPress were a better way to go. So I did that, went with WordPress.

Recently I had a conversation with another marketer I really respected and looked up to and was told how a lot of the people who went with Site Build It sites that at least he knows of arn't getting anywhere with them now. He's in the same market as some of the others that were using Site Build It and are friends with them so to tell you the truth I took his word for it.

I think that the concept can be used no matter what your choice is. Also, your right - to me it does seem like they are blogging. I would think that WordPress or any other CMS system could be setup basically like they are, at least thats how it appears. The only thing I heard positive otherwise was that they had good research tools on the backend once you have a Site Build It site. I know of a guy who has a Site Build It site, but only uses it for research and just does his own thing afterwards and makes up his sites look fairly similiar to site build it but he must of just been using the same principles that they were using.

If your focus is more on content I really do like WordPress. I do want to make sure I'm understanding your post about WordPress having hosting too. I'm guessing you mean wordpress.com and not wordpress.org? There is a difference. It would be better for you to download WordPress from wordpress.org and install it through your hosting on your own domain, or by using Fantastico in cPanel. Joomla is also a content management system like WordPress if you found that you would prefer that as well.

I hope that helps! Please keep in touch on what you decide to go with.

      evolvingpublishing,
Thank-you. I cannot even begin to tell you how much I appreciate your candor.
Looking at Yaro Starak Blog Profit Blueprint program, A little more expensive at 97.00/month.

And yes you understood me correctly. Guess I was hoping I could do everything in wordpress (website and Blog) and cut down on the number of services I have to log into to build and maintain it.

Yeah, it is a bit overwhelming with all the same type of offers bombarding you from every direction. I do not mind spending a little money for someone who built a good business plan so I do not have to reinvent the wheel. I just want a quality blog to work on my writting/help some people/ and maybe make a few dollars on industry specific product and services.

I've used Site Build It for almost 3 years now with great success. I've been a web designer for over 10 years and refuse to use anything else for my major web sites.

I am presently working on a 2nd SBI site. I'm a die-hard fan and my site is doing incredibly. So much so that I work from home, full-time now.

SiteBuildIt offers the best online builder module around and makes it easy for anyone -- even those who have no idea what "HTML" means -- to build a successful website. I have built ALL of my successful, high-trafficked websites with SBI (read my story here).

What about a good looking website?

I don't know any HTML code and was thinking about buying this.

They said that you can choose from the templates they have available. Does anyone know what these templates look like? and could perhaps provide links to the sites?

You can visit SBI! - Case Studies to see lots of case studies along with the links to their sites.

As far as I've researched, I don't think you need to know about HTML. They seem to have a website builder. Most of the SBI sites have the same peculiar design (You could tell within seconds of seeing a site whether it was built with SBI!). Though you won't rate it as the "most beautiful", but it does have great readability. You could still upload your own HTML files if you want.

My first website was built with Site Build It. Ok, I learned a lot about content creation and monitization from them. If nothing else, the model makes sense and was very informative.

It's a bit expensive to maintain. Once I learned the ropes, I've moved on to cheaper alternatives, but still apply many of the concepts that I learned from Site Build It.

The transfer from SBI to a new hosting provider seemed too complicated for even the hosting provider to accomplish. I ended up doing it manually, which was a valuable learning experience, so I'm not complaining now. But it shouldn't have taken a week to transfer a simple site.

I didn't care for the customer service... or lack there of. It seemed to me like they made it painfully obvious that they didn't want bothered by my petty stupid questions. Eventually I got some basic answers that I needed, but seriously... the process was extremely painful.

It's not a bad system to learn though.

Edit: Oh My Goodness this is an old post. Whatever, the advice still applies if someone else wants to know!

    Hi All

If people are looking for hosting companies, I have a page on my website that is for my clients. I have listed the top three companies that I use...

    WebYabber - About Us

I think each is good at what they do. I have BlueHost, HostGator and SiteSell (Site Build It)

I also have a web site color picker that helps to decide what are some nice colors to build your site around...

    WebYabber - Color Picker

I have used SiteSell for a number of sites for my cleints. Clients that want all the tools provided for them. I also have a number of clients on BlueHost and HostGator. I would say the largest number are on HostGator. I highly recommend HostGator for anyone that is in Internet Marketing. They have good servers, the price is very fair and the sevice department has been fast anytime I have asked a question.

    Have a Great Day!

I agree, ny_mariposa. You get the training and knowledge that stay with you forever. I hear people all the time quoting things they've learned that sound *just like* things I've learned from Ken Evoy in the SBI! forums, and in all the books he's written and in the various SBI! materials.

A lot of people, like Richard who replied to your post, though, think that SBI! is about hosting and putting up a site. It's so much more than just hosting.

I built a business with SBI!, one that builds traffic and income in several ways. I don't consider $299 to be expensive for what I have learned, for all the updating they do, and for all the tools (tools.sitesell.com), and especially not when I realize that I have an honest income-earning business after failing at so many other attempts, from Wordpress (um, and Typepad and Blogger) to, I'm afraid to admit, falling for a Get Rich Quick (they sure sound convincing, don't they?). Fell for it, and fell hard. But I kept thinking of SBI! while I was trying to do those "other methods" and realized that *nothing* compares. SBI! keeps the whole process real.

In so many ways, "other" companies compare to SBI! like apples and oranges. It's the "all the tools all in one place" that SBI! provides. And they took out the need for tech-knowledge, which made the whole thing possible for me (and lots of other people, too!)

It's amazing to me, for example, that so many who teach online stuff now have "discovered" that content is so important, and that Google wants sites to "appear" real. So they suggest creating content pages and linking strategies to appear real. (!) At any rate, "keeping it real" is the way SBI! has always been.

    1. Share real content, value, experience
    2. Traffic comes because of the reality of the site, and they stay, or return, or share the site with others because of the real feeling and validity of the experience (you can't buy that feeling of realness!)
    3. You become an expert in the eyes of your site visitors, because you're being real
    4. You can offer products and services for sale and create a business in the environment of realness (oops -- is that a word?) :-)

Regarding transferring of your SBI! site... it's as easy as using available software to suck down your entire site (SiteSucker for Mac, or Frontpage or some other software for PCs -- others here might have suggestions on PC software), every page and image, all into their correct directories, and then FTP'ing to your new host. The transfer of a site, even a site with 100+ pages of content, could take 30 minutes or less.

You'll have to hook up forms on a site you move, of course, with scripts. That would add some time to the process, but you have to do that for any transfer of any site from anyplace. Of course, you lose access to their Brainstormer and keyword research and all the other tools and their constantly updated information. And I can't say enough great things about the Brainstormer. I'm a keyword research geek and that's my favorite toy, er, tool.

And Support, for me, has always been fantastic. I've been a customer at SBI! for years. I've contacted Support a lot. Not with complaints or broken things, but just questions. I'd say about 90% of the time (or better) they respond faster than their policy requires. They *always* fix or answer whatever the issue is.

There's a special e-mail address on every reply from Support that you can use to contact the founder, Ken Evoy, directly if you're not happy. He's obsessed with customer service and there are regularly way more kudos in the forums about Support than complaints (pretty unusual).

So many people learn so much, and they go on to start a second business, even a third. I have built more than one SBI! site (actually I can't imagine getting this far without SBI!) and I actually sold my first one. After all, you're building an asset, so it makes sense. And as a result of that sale I was able to move on and explore other site ideas I had.

As I said, I've been an SBI! site owner for years (since 2004 seriously -- but I bought my first package in 2001, so we've kind of grown up together online). I can't recommend it highly enough for the person who wants to do it herself and who has not yet succeeded online.

    Here's to your success!

I have two Site Built it sites. There is nothing better if you are just starting out and have not HTML knowledge. All you need to do is choose your look and feel for your site at the start, then upload your content.

SBI has a ten day action guide which takes you through the whole process of choosing a niche and then building a site around it.The price of $299pa includes domain name and hosting.

The forums are great with some really knowledgeable people and I have found customer service to be good.

For keyword research they use Wordtracker.

You get all the stats about how many visitors you are getting and how they are finding your site.

The only other thing I would say is that once you have built one or two sites with them, you know what to do, so if you want to keep costs down, learn HTML and go with a cheaper hosting service.$300 per year per site can be alot if you have multiple sites.

I agree with all of the good words said about Site Build It. Great tools, great forum, lots of support, etc. It is a great program for those completely new to being a webmaster. It was my introduction to HTML and CSS.

After a time, however, I found that I wanted more flexibility in managing my own site. I wanted to know how to do alot of things that SBI insulated you from needing to know. The preachy style of Ken Evoy also started to wear on me over time. I eventually moved my site to Bluehost.

SBI is a great teacher and if you need alot of handholding then it is highly recommended but if you are the type that needs to strip it down to nuts and bolts you may want to explore some other avenues.

For people who start with other website providers, they find they say that SBI is very wonderful. They wish they had found it much earlier. This is what my team members have said. For those who start out with SBI, I am sure they can be successful with any online business because the education ken Evoy provides is invaluable.

I am so grateful that I started off with SBI. For internet pros, SBI may not be ideal though may webmasters love it.. but for a beginner/newbie, SBI will save them lots of time, money and energy.
