Hi guys,

new to warrior forum, new to blogging so please bare with me .

I have recently created a domain through Bluehost and I proceeded to install wordpress through Bluehost to customize my website. I then found a theme I wanted to use and I applied that theme through wordpress and I go to >Settings>Landing Page Options and when I click on Landing Page Options it says: "you do not have sufficient permissions to access this page" or something along those lines. I then did a bit of research to try and troubleshoot the issue and I found a discussion that was over 4 years old with someone asking the same question and they said that bluehost was using a 3.0.1 Beta Wordpress or something? And that it needs to be moved to 2.9.2 Wordpress which is more "stable"? From what I understand we are sitting around Wordpress 4.0 so I feel this information is outdated... If there is anyone that can help me this would be REALLY appreciated as I have spent hours trying to figure this out on my own.

Regards,

Jonah

That error is kind of a catch all phrase in WP, meaning it could be many things.

What is the theme your using?

I took a couple screenshots of what it shows. I unfortunately do not know the URL when I go to try and upload these photos...(I feel like an idiot) The theme I am trying to use is a Frank Kern theme Called Landing Page made by After10, I'm sure that's probably no help to anyone at all... I will try to update wordpress through FTP as you said TNW and I will let you know how it goes. Thanks

It's likely the issue is the theme contains outdated/deprecated WordPress functions, especially regarding roles and capabilities.
I remember that theme and it's a little outdated (as far as code).

You'll need to update it yourself (pay someone), or use an updated theme.

    WordPress reference:
Roles and Capabilities « WordPress Codex

Good possibility the problem is the way the theme page/subpage is hooking into the admin menu.
This could cause permission errors if using the deprecated method

Function Reference/add pages page « WordPress Codex

If you really like the theme you may find someone here in the Warrior Forum who could update it for you.

It might be worth contacting your hosting company to see if there's any restrictions they've put in place.

I once couldn't edit the code files of a Wordpress Plugin. On contacting my host, it turned out to be a restriction they'd put in place and they immediately lifted it for me.

Will I get charged an arm and a leg to try and have it updated? The reason I want to keep the theme is that it is part of Frank Kern's program. I am going to contact BlueHost and see if they can do anything for me but it makes sense that is outdated.... It is 4 years old, but I would like to revive it as I have no code experience and as far as the program states it's designed for noobies.

Bluehost is not a very good company (EIG). I wold not rely on their documentation or information regarding WordPress.

Where did the theme come from?

As stated, it probably has outdated code, and must be rewritten to be modern.

Step 1 would be to contact Frank Kern's organization to see if they can provide an updated version.
If no, then analyze to see what advantages this theme would have given you over other themes and try to find a modern equivalent. Personally I only trust the free themes that I can get at Wordpress.org. If you get them anywhere else you need to Google how and why to check for encrypted code.

If there is a substantial benefit to Frank's theme and you can't find an equivalent modern theme, then and only then should you look to get it fixed. Cost will probably run between $25 and $400. You may have to go through 3 or 4 people before you find someone who can solve the issue.
