Anybody who knows how to do this?

I already have AMPPS running in my computer.

Years ago I use to develop php on a local server type set up, but I couldn't tell you these days. Remember I had to install a version of MySQL, and the rest I don't remember. I find it easier just to do it on my hosting. Everything is already there.

Have you not used the search engines? Sure there are plenty of pages to explain it.

I googled it but I have not seen any explanation on how to fill out the info during the installation.

I would probably use a virtual machine. Virtualbox is a good choice.

mojojuju, thanks for suggesting that. It's a nifty tool to have in one's arsenal box. I am right in understand that this is like having a virtual server in the cloud? If so, will this make it easy to migrate your files to a hosting company or can you host your site through this virtual box?

I don't know what "the cloud" really means anymore. It's a nebulous label slapped on all kinds of hosting products. I think it initially had something to do with redundancy, involving multiple servers. In this sense, you could have multiple VMs hosting your site with some serving as failovers or load balancers.

Sure, it could be like "the cloud".

Sure, it's easy to migrate a site this way, especially if your virtual environment is similar to that of a hosting company which you wish to use. I think most hosts put users sites in /home/ and that's the type of setup you could have if you had a server running on virtualbox.

Yes, you can host a web site through Virtualbox. I have done so before and it works fine.

Right now, I am running a home web server using another type of virtualization called KVM, and that works fine as well. You just have to remember that whatever you use to host sites on a home internet connection, whether it's a virtualized server or a real computer, you have to open up port 80 on your router if you want to make your web site accessible to the outside world.

nuke07, thanks for the video link. I did that before installing AMPPS. I actually found out how to install WP using AMPPS except that I needed to figure out what some of the fieldnames are for but I think I have a good idea on what they are all for.

mojojuju, thank you for being so informative. I did not realize that I used redundant words - virtual and cloud Sorry for the confusion.
