Looking for some feedback!

Hey!

I'm just finishing up with a school project, which I plan on continuing outside of school and I would like to get some feedback from fellow developers and designers ( and anybody really ). I have a backlog of features to add, a user backend and a host of functionality that comes with that, more searching/filtering features (by genre for example) - right now though I'm really just looking for some feedback on the overall look/feel and concept.

Suggest a Movie!

So the general idea behind it all was to help people find a good movie to watch. My partner and I for the project are both big movie buffs so it worked out great! We acquired a nice domain suggestfor.me - and now we plan on making a network of "suggest a thing" sites, starting of course with movies.

So yeah, any feedback or suggestions would be greatly appreciated .

Thanks!

Too dark for my tastes, but that is just my opinion.

Seems like it might be a good idea, but think it has a ways to go. Guess for me, it's like you need to know what your looking for, almost exact, so it's not really a suggestion site, but more a search site.

Plus you only get one result for each search. Very limited. To me a suggestion site would give me a bunch of suggestions, other wise I'd be spending alot of time search and might not ever find something good.

I would think a good addition would be categories, like action, comedy, drama, ect. Where visitors could go through those as well, instead of just search.

I Understand, that it could be a way for people to discover something new, but that could be greatly hit and miss because it's so random and such a wide variety.

Not trying to be negative on an idea, just my take from "using" the site.

    You asked.

I agree with the two above, you need to add categories so it would be easier to browse on movies. I mean people can actually search for a movie that they don't know right? Also there would be people who are looking for a specific genre so it would be easier for them if you add that feature.

hi, yes, the first thing you might need to add are categories. Because, as Dbostian mentioned, how can I search for a movie if I do not know how it is called?

I like the idea, that the page background is different for every movie, but, at least for me, it takes long time to load up.

Movie descriptions are very very short, too short.

    Thanks for the feedback guys!

Don't hold back with the criticism, we started the project with a singular idea and just rolled with it - with little time to actually put towards development given all our heavy course load.

I suppose it's worth mentioning that the movies that are displayed when you click "Random Movie" are pulled from a list we create and are always adding to, a list of our favourite movies, classics, hidden gems, and some guilty pleasures etc... We know there won't be something for everybody in that list though so we decided to add the search feature - which thinking back was a bit silly given, that as you mentioned, the user needs to know the movie they are searching for .

As for genres, that was a feature we had to cut from scope for school but it's at the very top of our feature list. We were thinking of having a list of genres, which when selected would present a page with something like 8-16 random movies from that genre ( like a table of posters which when clicked will lead to the individual movie page ). There would also be a button to load a new set of random movies for that specific genre. This was just our first thought though, any suggestions for how you would like see this done?

As for the look/feel - we kind of just tossed something together, our only goal was for it to be minimalistic and visually oriented.

Unfortunately we're pulling everything from an API, and that's the description we're served, so I don't believe there's any way to get a longer one without manually adding them. That said, is there any other information you would want to see for a movie? Cast, studio, year made, etc?

Again, thanks for the feedback - keep it coming!

I like how IMDB made their movie descriptions. but at least you should have a cast and year

It would be helpful to suggest a movie in a specific category or genre.

If I am in the mood for a comedy, give me a random comedy.
