Is it possible to design a site as a Photoshop file and transpose it to HTML?

Please don't blast me for this...my knowledge of this kind of thing is 0%...and I'm just trying to fill in a knowledge gap while my go-to tech guy is away.

Is it possible to design a webpage/website within Photoshop...with it's boundless possibilities...and then somehow convert it to HTML?

I.E:

- Cut buttons up so they are clickable
- Turn the text into live text

etc....

We don't need anything flashy like video, but would like to explore design beyond the realms of most HTML design.

Thanks!

While it's not something I've personally done, I have seen people offering services in the past to create a website from Photoshop files.

I've also previously bought Wordpress themes online which have included a number of Photoshop PSD files of every page.

In practice, I'm not sure what's involved in doing this, but I'd consider looking at Dreamweaver which is also part of the Adobe "family" and so might be able to work with the Photoshop files directly.

I think JakeM is right to put the site in Dreamweaver. Might be it can put the code of the code. I need to ask my designer and developer regarding the problem.

Search for PSD to HTML in google. Tons of companies out there, you send them a PSD, then slice it up in to valid html. $20-$80 for one page, interior pages are much cheaper. But once you have the html, will you know what to do with it from there?

Yes, it's definitely possible. Photoshop has a "slice" feature that allows you to cut individual elements like buttons, backgrounds, icons, etc. Then you will have to save this file as a .PSD template for then someone with HTML knowledge to convert it into a full website template.

Dude is probably looking for a way to "automate" the process vs. spending the time to manually slice everything... in that case, he'd need to keep the PSD layers intact & convert it to a PDF using convertfiles.com/convert/document/PSD-to-PDF.html or zamzar.com/convert/psd-to-pdf/ for i.e., then take that PDF & convert it to HTML5 via idrsolutions.com/online-pdf-to-html5-converter/ or similar... and voilà!

This might need more planning, what are you refering to when you want to design beyond the realms of html.

Other than that, yes you can slice and cut the buttons, images, etc and use it for your website.

It's totally possible. In fact it's how good looking websites are made. Designers make the beautiful PSDs, coders make it real. That's how things in my company work.
