Usability Testing? Better than ThemeForest? NEED FEEDBACK!

I'm doing some design work on my site and trying to give my visitors the absolute best experience possible with finding the perfect WordPress theme for their website. We've collected over 15,000 themes so far, but I think my users get overwhelmed by having to filter through so many.

What would make it easier to find themes on the site?

Why wouldn't you use this site to find a theme?

Why use ThemeForest or TemplateMonster over this site?

    You got several issues.

    - No search box. Really? Don't know how you missed that one
    - Site looks plain, missing substance
    - Numerous design errors, elements are overlapping, looks unprofessional
    - Limited info is shown on the theme detail page
    - No social proof, looks like your going to steal my credit card if I gave it to you
    - You blog hasn't been updated in months, site looks abandon
    - Your about us page is wacky, work on a real story behind your brand
    - and more
    - and more

    Go back to the drawing board. Figure out what people really want from a WordPress theme site and don't copy Themeforest. It's not about having the most themes available (which you'll never win at) maybe focus on providing themes to a particular industry, like providing wordpress themes for restaurants, photographers, or something that you can use as your point of difference.

      Def agree on this. Prob the biggest issue in terms of usability I would think. Users do need a way to search for the theme that they want, otherwise having so many themes doesn't really make sense.

    WOW, so many choices.... What does your site do that all the others don't do? Bringing EVERY theme together in one place is overwhelming. How, exactly, are you helping people make their choice?

    Here's a few reasons why I'd use ThemeForest:

    Sorting and selection filters (which your site has none).

    On ThemeForest you can select themes by:

    Categories
    Tags
    Price
    Popularity
    Age
    Sales
    Ratings
    etc

    You also get to see a demo of each theme.

    There is a clear summary and detailed information for each theme.

    There is a rating system that lets you see which themes are popular.

    As previously mentioned, the number 1 feature your site needs is a search/selection filter.

      Thanks for the feedback. I find this stuff SUPER valuable, so thank you! You're right about missing search, plain site, limited info, blog, and the rest. I hadn't thought much about social proof, so GREAT suggestion there. I'll rework the About Us page too as you're right that it isn't great.

      If you do truly have a lot of "and more" things that could be done, I'd value anything else you can tell me that you think would help.

      Thanks for the feedback UMS. I really appreciate it. Makes a lot of sense. Always intended to add filters but never quite got around to getting them working. Will definitely consider this for the new design!
