Questions about rebuilding old HTML site with Wordpress and redirecting old pages please...

I want to preserve the Google Page Rank of an old HTML website that I'm going to rebuild with Wordpress.

I have 4 questions please...

1) In order to preserve the Google PR of the old HTML site, should I use a Wordpress plugin to redirect the old HTML pages to the new Wordpress pages?

2) Should I redirect old HTML pages that do NOT have Google PR to their new Wordpress pages? I'm talking about the old HTML pages with no Google PR like my Contact, Privacy, FTC Notice, etc. pages?

3) Should I delete the old HTML site after I'm done rebuilding it with Wordpress?

4) If I should NOT delete the old HTML site, will Google penalize me for the duplicate content that exists on the old HTML site?

Thank you very much.

Seems this would be better in the SEO sub forum. I have "heard" that redirects don't hurt, but I do not have first hand knowledge.

Another option is to use permalinks with your wordpress, you can set the pages to the url you want. Course that would be some work if you have lots of pages, as it's something you have to set for each page manually. Unless there is an automated way I don't know of. Possible.

    1) It would be a good idea to redirect old pages to new wordpress links. This will keep in your link juice as well as keep the old bookmarks working for your site.

    2) Yes go for it, no harm in doing that.

    3) Yes delete the old site, that will save you some server space, but only do that after setting the redirects.

    4) Assuming that you redirect all the old html pages to new wordpress pages, there wont be an issue of google penalize you for duplicate content, even if you don't delete the old site.

I always use permalinks with Wordpress but Wordpress/PHP sites don't use the .html extension, hence the reason I'll probably need to redirect the old pages to the new.

Should I do the redirects at the new Wordpress site with a redirect plugin, or should I do the redirects at the old HTML site that was built with XsitePro? And if I do the redirects at the old HTML site then won't those redirects go away after deleting the old HTML site?

Thats not entirely correct we can assign .html to wordpress posts easily, for pages we would need a plugin to work that out.

To add a .html extension to wordpress posts you need to change the permalink structure similar to the following in the custom structure

        Code:
        /%postname%.html
To add .html in pages you need to add a plugin.

It would be better if you do a redirect with a plugin. If you are able to replace your current site map structure using the wp permalink above stated then you probably wont need to do the redirect.

Let me know if you require any other help.
