This took me a lot longer than it should have to get up and running, but it's finally live.
I'm considering this the beta launch, as there are a few things I haven't been able to figure out yet.

I know there are some pretty clever folk in here and a few good web designers too. If you could take a minute to check out my page and give me some criticism that would be awesome.

Drawing Strangers | A global portfolio of people and their stories

A few things I would like to change/add.

- A good email subscription popup that shows when you try to exit the page. Can anyone recommend a good free plugin for a mailchimp list.?

- Support for automatic continuous loading as you scroll down the blog page. This would be useful once I get more posts up there, but requires some custom css code.

- Adding an archive page when I get more posts. I want this to be a big grid of thumbnail images which open in a lightbox format along with text when clicked. More custom coding to get this done.

- A world (google?) map with pins for each subject I draw. I just think it would be cool to keep tabs on all locations.

    I like it!

    A few things -

    1. Change or remove your favicon. It's still showing the default hostgator icon.
    2. I think the social media icons might benefit if they were a bit crisper, or if they popped out a bit more.
    3. Maybe bold the bottom home/contact?

The print was hard for me to read with everything being light gray. Other than that, I thought it was well put together.

Pretty good site. Would just make the social links better so they really pop out & I'de say you will get some good traffic that way. Do you sell your services to draw these or is it more of a portfolio? They are pretty neat & will probably have people asking for them I would think? The testimonials were neat as well but maybe add a video of you making them or drawing it from another picture would be cool 2. Best of luck

1 - I had no idea! Thanks for that.
2 - Do you mean the share icons, or the account icons in the header? This is just the standard icons that came with the theme, but hopefully I can find something better.
3 - Good call. Added to the to-do list

Thanks Angela, I've had a few people say this. I will be trying different colour/tex/backgrounds soon. Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks you very much. All these portraits are drawn for free from user submitted photos.
I'm actually planning to release some videos of works in progress as well as some tutorials, I think it will add a good element to the site. Thanks.

I meant the green social media icons. Not a deal breaker, just something small to maybe look into

I really like the site, and I think it's a great idea. What makes it even more interesting is the stories for each person. I would think you'd have a low bounce rate because it's interesting.

Since your using Wordpress, I think as for the scrolling, that is a parallax feature. Some one can correct me if I am wrong.

Here are some plugins that might do it for you:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/search.php?q=parallax

Never used any, so I don't know anything about them. Just passing it on.

Most email popups, or popups with email capabilities work with many email services, so don't limit your search to those just for mail chimp.

As for a grid, there are plugins for that as well.

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/search...age+grid&sort=

On a side note, I think your site might be a perfect for this theme:

WordPress - Storyline Board WordPress Theme | ThemeForest

I also agree with what was said, that your social icons could use some spiffing up, making them a little large and have a better call to action, to get more people clicking them. Some times you need to tell people what to do. Just "Share" doesn't impart much urgency.

    Hi compleks.

I would advise against showing a popup when users exit the page. It's contemptuous towards your users, and search engines will be able to sniff it and probably penalise you.

That'll require ajax, not css. Some themes will have that built in, and I believe you can add it through the plugin Jetpack.

Yes, that'll require quite a lot of custom code in your theme, but definitely doable.

That'll be very easy. You create and add pins to the map through google maps. They will provide you with the line of code that you paste into your post, and it will auto update whenever you add pins to the map.

      Thanks again everyone.

I have implemented some changes already. But others are a little tricky for me at the moment, but I'm not ignoring anyone, just trying to find the best solutions.

Thank you all for the great advice. Very much appreciated.

The opt-in box in the bottom left should have a reason why I should join your list? Some sort of enticement that will hook your likely readers

      Thanks Bill, I agree.

I was planning to have a free offer there, maybe for a quick video or e-book on some techniques. But I'm not sure what to offer yet, as many users probably aren't interested in drawing themselves, so I might have to think of something else with a wider audience appeal.
      Open to suggestions.
