Default Personal Directories getting Hits

New to the website business, I recently noticed my website getting regular hits on a personal directory, the Google search :

intitle:index of personal jpg

Just contained some family photos etc, which I now removed, is this a spam bot or just peeping toms?

I know a guy who had a similar issue. He was getting a nice stream of traffic to his personal photos and such but only a small amount to his website. Turns out he had a photo description with some popular search terms in Google photos, or that's what he told me anyhow.

This type of search is one form of a well known Google trick. It points up why every directory ought to have an empty default file, like index.html. Then no one will be able to search within the directory.

Another way to protect the directories on your web server, if you have cPanel, is to go to the Index Manager and follow the directions for turning indexes off.

I hope this helps.

create a robots.txt file and disallow search engine bots from accessing certain directories on your site.

This is what was happening to me!
(Maybe I should revise strategies)

Thanks for useful info guys, as an online trader I load huge amt of photos & directories on my host, so Steve's advice is most practical in my case.
