My Wordpress menu has gone crazy!

I've just updated my menu on my Subway theme from Themeforest, and now the menu is not showing correctly. The menu items are displayed vertically instead of horizontally above the header.
It was fine yesterday, and I'm sure I didn't change anything.
Any ideas?

Your site is not loading properly.
Clear your cache, cookies, temp files etc. Restart your machine if needed.
Also, your host could be overloaded and slow. Your actual site is most likely fine.

That's a bummer! Did you just built this site on localhost?

Check the htaccess file for strange characters and dns error

In WP general settings make sure your dns is pointing to right site and not still to localhost.

That failing, you may need to dig into the DB to check your URLs for site and login.

With everything else done its clearly a dns issue.

      Hi Joseph,

I re-installed the original theme, and will now have to redo all my work.
One thing I have done is to create a child theme, and do all my changes on that.

      Cheers

    So what happened?
Dns issues are not uncommon and never seen one that couldn't be fixed.

Child theme is a must IMO but that doesn't prevent any issues you would have otherwise.
It only keeps you from over writing changes on updates by maintaining original files intact.
I would look deeper for a cause to prevent recurring.

"I re-installed the original theme, and will now have to redo all my work."

Doesn't make sense to me without further explanation. Sorry

What do you mean "updated" - what type of update did you do? Plugin? Theme? etc.

One thing I do before I mess around or run any type of update is make a backup copy of my site or files that I'm going to be modifying.

I deleted everything in Wordpress - themes (except for the default twentyfifteen) and plugins.

I then looked at my site with the default twentyfifteen theme and checked that the menu displayed properly.

Then I installed the Subway theme from the original zip file on my hard drive, and made a child theme from that.

Of course all my plugins had gone, so I had to remember which ones I had added. As I added each one, I went back and checked that the menus were still displaying properly.

The theme had reverted to the default content, so again I had to remember the changes I had made. My custom images were still on my hard drive, so no problem reloading them into the media library.

The default text was still there, so again I had to remember what text I had altered. This was more difficult, as I had forgotten what I did.

This was virtually the only thing I had to redo from scratch.

As I said, lesson learned, but all in all it wasn't too much trouble.

I still don't know what caused the original menu problem, but I thought that rather than scratching around trying to find the answer it was easier to start from scratch, which it was.
