Just started this new website here:

Survivalist Info - The Survival Resource Database

I am getting little-if-any traffic despite original content, no copying etc. I have Meta-tagged it, used SEO as best I know.

Anyone got some ideas?

I think the main problem here is that your website looks like unfinished. It's not looking nice and it's hard to read your posts. I guess you did all job by yourself and didn't hire some experienced web designer, but even if you did that you can find some free templates which looking great or you can install wordpress and find some great theme, so with really low amount of your time you can have nice looking website. That will help you that your visitors come again to your website and learn something new, also some opt in form to collect visitor emails will help you in long term.

To get more traffic in my opinion you should go on the place where are people from your niche and hang out with that people. That means you need to find g+ circles, popular Twitter users, Facebook groups etc. and provide some great advice to that members pretty often, after that you can post the link to your website etc.

  • Design does matter for web pages. If you have lots of original content, then this will attract visitors. However, all of the major search engines monitor bounce rate. I.E. the amount of time a visitor stays on the site before leaving. If you have a high bounce rate (lots of short visits) this has a negative effect on your SEO, which result in less visitors. If you keep visitors on the site for longer, with engaging content and nice images then your SEO position will improve.

As a result, I would advise you to find a nice template and fill that with the content that you have already created. At the moment you site looks a bit too much DIY 1998 for my liking. White text on a dark background is difficult to read. People don't stay on sites that are difficult to read.

    • Just to add, you also need to be aware that there are more mobile devices than desktop browsers in the world since 2014. This means you need to have a site that renders well on mobile devices.

Google provide a responsive site checker:
      https://www.google.co.uk/webmasters/...bile-friendly/

Your site doesn't render well on mobiles. It's effective impossible to navigate, which leads to a high bounce rate. So the single best piece of advise I can offer is to get a nice responsive template and keep to the good work with the original content. This will pay off in the long run.

Nice sound! For SEO purpose website design is the main factor. You have resigned your website. Now start backlinks onto various categories like- bookmarking, commenting, directory, forum, article submission, pdf submission, web 2.0, profile link building and any other method of SEO. Start Social Media Marketing as well. Hence forth will increase your website visibility and traffic as well.

      Thanks!!!

If more than half of all the web browsers in the world can't use your site, then that's a very good reason to redesign it! Have you ever tried using your site on a mobile?

No, I don't like to browse the web on a mobile, it's too dinky and fiddly.

That's exactly the issue that a responsive site resolves. Google take this *very* seriously. If you have a responsive site that passes their responsive test they rank the site high in the mobile search results and put a "mobile friendly" message next to it. This results in more traffic from mobiles, lower bounce rate and better rankings for the site overall. It's really a no brainer if you're serious about your site.

First of all, you said your website is new, so that can also be a factor to take into consideration. New websites need time to get some serious traffic.

Second of all, yes you really need to redesign it! It looks so very unprofessional, it looks like it was made in Front page... I'm just trying to help, not offend you in any way. Redesign it ASAP or hire someone to do the work for you and make it responsive!

Have a quick visit to the themeforest Top Selling & Best HTML, CSS & Web Templates Feb 2015 | ThemeForest

You can use these templates with Dreamweaver. In my experience with the Themeforest is that the best templates come with detailed instructions and you can get direct support from the developer of the template if you run into issues. However, given the nature of your site, I can't help thinking that you'd be better off with a CMS like WordPress. This makes it much easier to manage a big site with a lot of content.

I tried Wordpress in earlier times but could get it working for some reason.

Also what is CMS? Central Management System?

          Any good places to download?

Content Management System. WordPress is a CMS. A lot of web hosts provide 1 click installers for Word Press. You certainly don't need to use a CMS, but it's worth the learning curve if you're planning to have a very big site.

There are many forum softwares like PHPBB or VBulletin which can be placed on website which is different. WordPress is CMS through which one shall able to update the changes to any website, like content, images, fonts etc.

    Hi,
you have fine content, but as people already mentioned, your website is designed not well.

Since you've built the website yourself, it should be easy and relatively quick to move it to a right platform and give it a nice design. My suggestions:

    1. Install Wordpress CMS to your host - it's free and technically simple. If you don't know how, google for How to install WordPress.

    2. Find a free nice looking and responsive WordPress theme and install it to your wordpress.

    3. Move the current content to WordPress - it will take a good evening.

    4. Add a couple of plugins:
Google Analytics Dashboard for WordPress and WordPress SEO by Yoast. You'll have website analytics and great SEO and sitemap which is missing right now in your website.

It all takes some learning, but after that you'll have a powerful platform for any kind of website. And you could easily tweak it for perfect seo results. And no coding. And it's free.

Wholy crap, did you bring me back to the first version of HTML or what?

This site looks like it was made in the 90s, and it's terribly unresponsive. Even basic HTML skills now-a-days can easily make a website some-what responsive. Though, your site doesn't respond at all to changes in browser size.

If you made this theme, get a template / hire a designer. I would never stay on a site that looks like this, despite the content it may contain.

I've updated the main side bar so it looks a bit easier on the eye. Also getting it less wide for mobile phones, I'm assuming that's how it is done?

Got a lot of irons in the fire right now though, gotta go slow on the design for a bit.

Design some something to do with SEO, fyi, especially those images and captions. Also, create your content. But no matter how good contents you have, if the design annoys the eye of the reader (like what happened to me now), then readers would go out of the site.

This is based with what we have experiences to your site.

Ok, take me through it, the images? What's the bad buzz about them? They are nice and fancy, colorful. High concept also. How can images not improve SEO? I thought that was mostly text and meta-tages etc. Images pull in traffic via image searches etc.

As WebOutGateway said, the design is too old. Try to check out the other comments like going to themeforest.com and selecting the correct theme for your site.

If you are still struggling after you have made changes to the design (using wordpress) and doing SEO, then maybe you could try buying a quality traffic from the likes of webtrafficgeeks.com or fiverr. I got good results with those kind of traffic. Do you have google adsense or are you selling stuff and getting commissions per sale?

      Hey Tyler,

I second what the folks have said about recommending that you redesign your site using Wordpress. In a lot of ways, you have done the hard work on making great content. It will be much more appreciated in a modern looking theme from Wordpress. You probably spent a great deal of time creating this website in Dreamweaver, but be encouraged... you can learn a great new skill and improve your website for a minimal amount of money! Once you put in the time to become more comfortable with Wordpress it will be well worth making the switch.

I usually use Wordpress themes from Elegant Themes and I highly recommend them, partially because their customer service is incredible!! If you buy a membership you can test out a lot of different premium, responsive themes and then ask their developers questions as they come up.

There are so many great free resources to help you get up and running with Wordpress.

      I hope all goes well!

Yes, is a CMS ( Content Management System ) just like forums, that used PHP.

Wordpress is most of the times available to 1-click installs through Cpanels on most web hosting companies. Just look out for something like "QuickInstall" or "Fantastico De Luxe" in your Cpanel , and you should find wordpress under blogging category.

    Hope this helps, cheers

31 posts and not one is it mentioned that when you goto an article page, there is no linking from that page. For now you need to forget all of the crap about themes and redesign and all of that. you need to really sit down and educate yourself on SEO.

Changing to wordpress WILL correct some of this.. but not all of it.

Your content.. I would say it is weak at best. your page "What to prepare for?" It could easily be done that each point in that article is 1000 words all to itself. Lots of pages when you click on them the only text that displays is "T." and that's not good.

You need to work on the design of your website. It does not look appealing at all and looks so 1999. I would hire a professional web designer to revamp it.
You'll also need to promote it heavily. Visit like-minded websites and pitch your website in a way that won't be construed as spam.

    Best of luck!

To increase your website traffic follow these :

1: Add some fine content on each page..

2: Start Guest blogging. Guest blogging is a method used by bloggers to increase blog/website traffic where bloggers write posts to be published on other bloggers' blogs.

3: Do some On page. if your already done try to add more relevant meta keyword meta descriptions, add alt tag in each image.

4: Use Social Media (facebook, twitter, googleplus, linkedIn digg ,delicious etc...)
