Default help with muti language site and internet explorer

I,m creating a multi language site, and have been using google to translate the content{i,m sure there are better ways i just dont know them}.So after i finish the french index page i put it in the french folder with all the other items css, html, ect.I changed the address in the flag to point to the folder...i open up the home page{in firefox} ,click on the french flag and clap myself on the back for being a master of the universe...until i opened the same page in internet explorer instead of firefox...then i dont know what happened but even with my limited understanding of French i,m fairly certain noone in that entire country that is using internet explorer is going to be able to decipher the gibberish i,m seeing. Can anyone steer me in the right direction as to how i can fix this problem,as French is just the 1st language,of 5 with multiple pages to go...any help will be appreciated.
