I have a client that has a WP site and asked me to manage it. Here are the problems and what I've done.
Site runs really slow at times. It's both in the back office and on the site itself. Most of the problems are in the back office. At times the server will time out. (Response I get from FireFox).
I have talked to his server they say nothing looks wrong to them. However, all of my sites and my other client's sites run on a different server/host and there are no loading problems at all. I have run every security scan I can think of, still nothing.
I got frustrated and deleted all of the WP files in his server, reloaded WP and the problem still exists.
When I got his site, he had almost 24K in comments, some were on the images? In other words they were you see the list of comments, on the right they'll say what post the comment was left on, some said ex: image W7. How the heck is someone leaving a comment on an image?
So, the long of it is I deleted all of his WP files, reloaded WP and a new theme. His site is still hanging. I am trying to rebuild it, but it's taking me forever waiting for the information to load!
Anyone here have an idea of what is causing this? Again, it's only happening with this one site.

Thanks so much for any direction or help you can pass along.

Do you recreate the database as well?

    - Do a speed check on your connection and verify your connection speed (speedtest.net)
    - Reinstall the files and recreate the database
    - Activate Akismet to capture all the spammy comments
    - If you have lots of plugins, disable each one-by-one and test the site
    - Install a WP cache to speed up the site

These are only a few troubleshooting tips - If it's still slow, then your webhost may be the issue. You may want to opt-in for the next "higher package".

    Hope this helps,

Thank you Artemis. I have done connection tests, before uninstalling all of his WP files. I have not done that again. Will do though. All of the plugins were gone after the dumping of the files, so I don't believe the plugins are the issue. I really do think it's his host.
He has had the same host for a few years and it wasn't until somewhere around the beginning of the year when the site started slowing down. I had been taking care of it, he no longer wanted to pay me, then I removed my security stuff, then his site turned to crap. Now he has asked me to come back and fix it. I have done everything I can think of, and it's still slow. It has to be in his server, or server files???
How do I get his host to check those? They keep saying they're fine on their end, but they're wrong! It's not my internet server, all of my other sites and client's sites work just fine. It's just this one.

Could it be because GD is using Linux now and perhaps forcing him to upgrade? Just a suspicion of mine. He only has one domain on this so he really doesn't need to upgrade.

      Thank you!!!

Try installing it on another host on different domain to test it. I am sure the server issue would be there because you uploaded again and again.

Poor servers only get problems as they won't cleaned or handled properly. If something was wrong with your site any host automatically reports to you.

I've actually thought about that. Creating a sub domain off of one of my domains and building it. If it worked just fine then doing a redirect of sorts. I know it's GD and it's server, or it's in the files they have. It's not WP.

I guess I have been jaded in that I've never had an issue before and don't know what to look for in my files. I'm really not a web designer by trade, this was a favor, originally, for a friend of a friend.
