Hello

I am here to ask --don't i have the right to ask my web designer for my website C/panel Info?
He kept saying that releasing the login info means he is done with my web site and if anything happens, he is not to be blamed. But my point is, what if we both mis contact and i need to renew what will happen?its my website and i think i should keep my site password too.

Thanks

Well what did you two agree on ?

    Who owns the hosting ?

Sounds like you didn't get a contract for the site development and was over chat or email ?

If you own the hosting you can get the info quickly. If you don't and it appears that you don't, is the website done and final and have you paid for all the services ?

He/She is correct unless you made other arrangements with them, once they release the cpanel info you pretty much own it for whatever terms you agreed. Meaning your responsible at this point

IMO, If the site is done and complete. Get the CPanel info and backup the site and get new hosting that you control, upload the site and then change the nameservers to the new hositng.

PM me if you have any questions are want more advise

      Thanks ,
No form of contract agreement was made,he is just a friend, my colleague at work , I just asked him to get me a blog site, I paid him and he purchased the domain, installed wordpress and I took over from there,I handled the posting only and whatever I want from the wordpress side, I could have paid the hosting company my self if I had known how to install wordpress.

Hosting and wordpress installation is the only thing he did. I just felt, I should have my cpanel password. I am worried . Supposing he or I stop Working in the same company and we lost contact..I have told him , I am not gonna do anything silly ,I want to simply keep the password.

What He needs a contract saying he is not responsible if anything on the site is broken before he gives you that information. That way you can't say something is broke and you need to fix it, without compensation. That's what the worry is on his side.

Need more info - did you already pay your designer?

There is a level of transparency when I work on web projects. The client knows what I'm doing and vice-versa. If I don't want any changes made to the site while I'm working on it then I'll ask the client not to make any changes and for the most part they respect that - doesn't matter if I'm hosting it or if my client is hosting it.

I don't have a problem with my clients viewing (read-only) the back-end (cPanel) while I work.

    My 2 cents

I see both points. Maybe that its not on its own CPanel but a add-on domain on his account is why he/she is reacting that way. What I would do IMO

If the site is done .... Get the cpanel info, get a copy of the site and download to your computer for safe keeping. So if the relationships break for whatever reason at least you have a copy of all the files and database. I assume you have wordpress admin access correct ? If so you can duplicate all the files and database there as well

PM if you need any assistance Mike
