How to capture email addresses (and manage them)

Can anyone provide me with a good script or describe technique of capturing email addresses from my web page? And then keep them in a database of some sort so I can email them from time to time?

I could do this the "poor boy" way via a simple email script and then store them in Excel or something and then manually email them from time to time. I envision emailing people maybe once every quarter or similar, not very often. And this would not be high volume. In a couple years time, I would doubt I would aggregate 1,000 addresses. It's a narrow but high profit niche.

I am not an expert programmer, I just get it done, maybe I could figure it out, lol.

EDIT: I do not use Wordpress.

I use AWEBER + CLOUD SPONGE and both found to be very useful in capturing email address. Both are very reliable and I've personally never had a problem with this coding.

An Example of Cloud Sponge API Coding above.
It is also good to use a custom form embedded into Facebook like Pagemodo.

MailChimp is free for up to 2000 - so that could work..

Alternatively, even if you don't use Wordpress for the site itself, you could still use Wordpress with MailPoet (or any of the other 100 lead collection services) running somewhere else, just to manage your list (if you prefer the self-hosted approach).

    Cheers,
    Michael

Yeah I tried Mail Chimp but found it not really professional enough (for my needs) So I customised a form with cloud sponge and custom coding PHP form that works pretty well, you can take a look here at my version . Simple PHP Contact Form

Aweber has a $1 trial you can use. It's not that expensive either... Even if you're on a budget you should be able to work with a $27/month fee.

One important thing no one has addressed, or talked about, is that if your not going to mail very often, you might want to think twice about even taking your time to set it up and do it.

It does not take long for people to forget you. If you don't mail often, they get your emails, don't remember you and they either unsubscribe or more likely report it as spam. Then you could have more trouble.

Email services are also using engagement as an indicator as to where your emails will end up. Little to no engagement, including not mailing very often, can land your emails in the junk or promotions folders.

To make email work, you need to mail often. I know, I've learned the hard way.

Ya, why are so many people recommending mailchimp? No doubt they don't like marketers.

When using an email capture service, use the double opt-in feature because it will reduce any spam problems.
