Genesis Framework is it worth it?

Hi folks,
I have a bazillion wp sites but have fallen in love with a Genesis theme. I understand that the Genesis framework offers faster load times and perhaps better security. There is some problem with plugins occasionally. A few googled posts seem to reiterate these three points.

Is it worth the cost?
Is the learning curve steep?
What else can you tell me about it?

    You only buy it once and updates on its own.
    Not any steeper and much less IMO than any other good framework.
    Use and customize genesis on its own or use any other child theme available for it.
    Good bunch of fanatics followers to answer questions.
