I have a welcome video when people opt in to my list recorded and saved as mp4. What is the best practice to run video these days on a website?

Should it be flash or some other format? What is the most compatible?

Thanks

  • The best option is to put it on youtube. If it's something you don't want everyone to see, set it as unlisted. Youtube is the second biggest search destination on the planet, so if you don't have your marketing videos on there you are missing out.

Like others have pointed out, you could create an unlisted YouTube video and optionally remove the buttons in the player if thats what you want, YouTube has its own documentation on this: https://developers.google.com/youtube/player_parameters

If you are wanting to use a custom player, try to save the file as a .MP4 in the .H264 codec. Very good quality for small file sizes, which will play fine on your visitors computer with any half decent router and it won't take up too much bandwidth.

You can also look into hosting your video on AmazonS3 to take the stress of your web hosting bandwidth or use JW Player.
