Default HELP! Installing FileZilla and Getting Error Messages

I have installed, uninstalled and re-installed FileZilla and I'm still getting "Critical Error" and "Could Not Connect To Server" messages when I click on my domain name to check for a connection.

I put in all the correct information for Host (my IP Address); Server Type: FTP - File Transfer Protocol; Logon Type: Normal; Username and Password: (same names used when HostGator was set up).

I clicked on "OK" then click on the "arrow" button in the upper left-hand corner to drop down my domain name. I clicked on my domain name. The box underneath was populated with information but the last two lines were in red with the error messages.

I have gone back thru the process and deleted the "New Site" and re-entered my domain name with and without the hyper-text prefix, without "www" -- nothing is working.

What did I miss or do wrong? Thanks.

Is this a brand new domain? Just set up in the last few hours? If so, the DNS info may not have had time to propagate completely. Could take as much as 24 hrs, although it usually doesn't.

I've had a previous experience like this with Filezilla. My friend tried for two days to figure out the issue and come to find that it was my firewall. I turned the firewall off all together as adding a port for exception didn't work. Windows is bad for this firewall issue.

I want to thank each of you for responding to my cry for help. I turned the Firewall off but that did not resolve the issue. So, I will continue to dig for a solution. The is not a new domain. It was set up at HostGator about a month ago and my blog is live.

If you think of anything else I can try, please let me know.

Thanks.

I get those here and there. It seems to be intermittent on some hosts. It could be the sites busy. Let FileZilla retry a few times and then do it manually a few more times, if you haven't already. Normally, after a few times it works.

Are you using the latest version of FileZilla?

I'm using v3.2.6 (not the latest). The version you're using may have issues.

I will try FileZilla a few more times and see if I can get a connection. If not, I may have to check out SkyHawk's recommendation. Thanks for your help and suggestions.

Try with a different application to determine if it is a filezilla issue or a problem at the server.

I use FireFTP with no problems, usually. It is a free firefox extension (if you don't use Firefox, you can get that for free, too).

Good luck!

Finally got it to work! Used my original domain name and had to have my password reset at HostGator. So, I don't know if the real issue was the incorrect domain name or the issue with the password.

But, I would like to thank all of you for your help and recommendations (which I have filed them away).
