I am having Problems with Dreamweaver 8

Hi All,

Desperate and frustrated!!!!

My Dreamweaver 8 on my laptop has been running fine for 2 years. I have just built a site which has about 20-40 banners on it which are affiliate links ( html code inserted from affiliate sites ) . All was going well until yesterday I added a few more links and they did not appear in browser when I did f12. I uploaded the pages too my hosting and they still did not appear. They appear in the work space and the code is in the code but they are not showing up on the published page. I have noticed that dreamweaver is getting slower and slower opening pages. This may be a laptop issue as I have been getting virtual memory low when I have multiple programmes running.

It now appears I cannot add affiliate links successfuly to any of my sites ( I have about 10 in the one dreamweaver programme ) . All the other links I have added previously would display so as you could see the add. Now they display as just the flash icon or a grey square. They still show alright on the web but maybe this is due to the same thing.

I am wondering about a solution.

Could it be due to the lack of space on the computer , have I overloaded dreamweaver with these links , could it be an update to windows that I have made recently , virus etc...

Can I restore default settings for dreamweaver may this solve the problem.

Finding it realy hard to get an answer anywhere else on the web so I am asking here.

I am realy frustrated and in desperate need of help. I hope some warriors can give me advice.

Dreamweaver Experts Please Help.

Thanks in Advance

The problem IMO is that you are linking to images/banners on your local machine, not your absolute path.

    Your link: file://whatevr/images/directory.jpg

    What is should say /images/whatever.jpg

Thanks for the reply but you have lost me. Why would when I just copy and paste the html generated link form the affiliate site work one minute and then not the next.

      Thanks

what i understand from all these post is, you have bunch of codes. some times if you use bunch of codes in same webpage u will get abnormal errors due to code malfunctioning and overlapping. which is very usual when u add some java codes and various server page codes. .. my solution is backup the original and start editing new file. carefully paste the affiliate links.

Hi Peter, let me address the slow start up. I have had the same issue, and I have loads of memory, so that isnt always the problem.
Sometimes the temporary site cache needs to be cleared if you have a large site.
I have 234 sites and I clear the cache once a month, it helps things move along nicely

java is a pain in the butt, DW doesnt handle it too well. if you have multiple ads that are java, there is a conflict somewhere, if not showing in browser, its most likely the reason.
do you have your DW set up so you can view errors (usually highlighted in yellow in your work area)
if you want to send me the html I can check it and clean it up for you. it may just be an extra < or > or a simple . !

      Hi Braindance,

Thanks for the response. I have solved my problem with the java not appearing . I found the needle in the haystack of code. It was that I had put my tables on 900% when I was creating them ( don't know how I did that ) once I changed them to 100% all was fixed.

I am interested in what you are saying about the clearing out the cache. Could you explain some more. How do I do this . Do I do it site by site. Does it have any affect on what I have created in the sites.

      Thanks in Advance
