Dreamweaver has progressed a lot after version 8. The current version is 10 a.k.a CS4. i would recommend you download the latest version and work on that so that you can produce / learn better code. ( trial versions are available FOC from adobe website legally. Let me know if you need any help on that. )

I took an excellent tutorial from the adobe website when I was learning dreamweaver cs4. If you know html already the cs4 version is very user friendly.

      Hi,

Dreamweaver is useful when you plan to do designs with tables. But for CSS xhtml coders, even notepad or notepad++ is better.

Anyways, Try to search with videos . google . com and type "dreamweaver tutorials"

I am sure you will lots of helping videos there.

Naturally , Dreamweaver is first difficult to learn , but it is so flexible that you wont go back to any editor after its use.

Please note that You cannot expect all the tags and codes to render in dreamweaver design area. So, After editing content with Dreamweaver , try to view that file in browsers fore preview.

I hope this post is helpful for you,

      Best Regards,

Dreamweaver 8 has some very nice CSS tools. They aren't as good as the ones in CS 4 but they are considerably better than notepad. There are even some basic CSS layouts for single, two and three column layouts that you can use as a base to get started. There are also table based layouts so make sure that you chose the css ones. Look for tutorals that use the CSS Properties Panel and check that your preferences are set to XHTML as the default docutment type and CSS 2.1 for CSS.

Dreamweaver is not just miles ahead, it is light years ahead. But the problem is it is very difficult to understand the functionality of everything. When I started using dreamwever I used to fumble around. It took me 6 months to master fully. But now boy am I happy I mastered it

thanks for all your comments, ive been churning away with it now for a few days and i`m getting better, it`sstill baffling sometimes though.

I`m suprised that there was some good free tutorials on the net, so i will try to locate some more. I think NAMO will be removed from my machine in a few months.

    thanks all

Good to hear that you have decided on dreamweaver. It is a really good program with solid options. If you are building an affiliate site, do checkout Xsite pro2. Really great software for quickly churning out affiliate review sites and stuff.

    Forget Namo.

You also don't have to buy dreamweaver. Dreamweaver sells for hundreds of dollars. Namo sells for $99 but isn't a real good solution. Answer?

Microsoft's Expression Web - which is nearly heads and shoulders with dreamweaver (except in one or two areas where dreamweaver is just a bit better)

    Web Overview < Product Information | Microsoft® Expression®

Retails for $149 but that suggested retail can be beat lots of places BUY.com has version 2 for $79 . Whats more you can use the new version 3 that was just released for 60 days for free. BUy that time I expect to see lower prices on version 3 as well (or you might get a free upgrade to verison 3 with proof of recent purchase.)

I stopped using Dreamweaver 2 years ago because it was much too complicated and it took a long time to get anything finished from scratch.

We have created the SiteKist software because of that ... much easier and 10 times faster.
