Been off the internet scene for a while, but I am back with renewed energy. I designed a profitable website myself some years back with "Sitebuild it", but I was using their block by block builder. I now have new niche, I want a content rich website to build my brand (similar to the one I built , BREATHTAKING NETWORK MARKETING SUCCESS SECRETS, build a list, and eventually monetize. I don't want to go back to the Sitebuild it route again. From what I have read here, it looks like WordPress is the way to go...... here are my questions: Can one non tech savvy person pull out a decent website with WP? Is there a step by step guide somewhere about how to go about this, particularly the tools needed to have it functioning?

Thanks

The question is: Do you only want a Wordpress site with a free or paid Theme or do you actually want to create the Theme by yourself? Creating Wordpress Themes requiers coding skills in HTML and CSS and for special effects also CSS. And after you have completed your template, you need to convert it for Wordpress. If you have never done that, even with YouTube videos it will take time till you can create something that looks good.

I just want a functional website, whether with a free or paid Theme, which I can customize and update myself, and have full control over if that makes sense. I am not looking at creating the Theme myself.

i am currently learning how to build my site with joomla with some of the videos i purchased. think its easier for me to learn one and master it.

its better for you to spend time and watch wordpress tutorials on how to build a website without coding skills. it will just cost you time at the beginning, but once you continue training, it becomes easier. looking to launch my site soon. more grace

I think wordpress is good option for the non-techie people myself. The amount of pluggins and extras you can add (Most are free and VERY EASY) give you so much help in creating a free or paid site down the road. There are SEO pluggins such as Squirrly ($15/Mo) which I use to optimize posts and make them SEO friendly. It works very well and does it as you type. The options for you are endless with WP and for a content rich site I think it is your best option. I too have been out of the loop for a while and spending some time building sites and learning more every day. I wish you the best and would love to see your site when you get it up and running.

Wordpress is one of the easiest platforms and its basic strength lies in the great community of contributors. There are plugins for almost all purposes and dedicated themes for niches, You can even buy themes from several portals. But, initially learn the basics and try building a simple one from scratch.
Please ask if you face any problem regarding installing and implementing it.

Wordpress is definitely your best choice, i have been building websites using Wordpress now for quite sometime and i started with little to no knowledge of how to use the platform. With all the free resources available by just googling something you want to learn or watching a video on Youtube, there is really no excuse to not learn something you want to learn. Start by googling the term "beginner guide to wordpress websites"

It really depends on your basic needs and what you're looking to do. WordPress is the absolute best platform to host a site on.

All I ask is please, for the love of God do not buy a theme. Themes are overloaded with absolutely disgusting code, they're not easy to modify and they're usually abandoned not long after their creation so you're vulnerable to SQL injections. You also need to make sure you're updating outdated plugins.

Whenever I get a client using a Wordpress bought or paid theme, I honestly want to cry. They're always horrendously awfully coded and they're a nightmare to change. If you can't shell out the money for a decent developer, I understand but please read reviews on any themes you buy and make sure the developer actively updates their theme.

It's always better if you get some knowledge about coding first. Because whichever platform you use to build a site, with basic knowledge about web designing it gets lot easier and it lets you experiment many things on your webpage. Good luck

Word press is best for content rich website and keep in your mind that your webpage should not be too longer to be downloaded fast. Also do not upload too big pictures in it.

Yes and yes! I'd go over to lynda.com and signup for a 10 day free trial. Take the "WordPress Essential Training with Morten Rand-Hendriksen" course, or another of the many WordPress courses, and you should have a working WordPress site by the end of the course.

You can start out with just a free basic WP theme and just focus on publishing your content for a while. Great thing is you can always change themes later so by the time you figure out the basics and overall design you want you'll have some content on the site already. Good luck!
