Website Design Resources For A Client?

I'm a domain broker, not a website designer, with a client (a lovely actress) who is looking to revamp her simple website into something a little more polished.

I just sold her the .com version for her site (she holds the .net version) for a steal (what can I say, I'm a softie at heart, but don't tell anyone hehe) and she is very stoked.

I know a little, but not a lot, about web design... and I'm not sure where to direct her. I gave her fiverr.com and of course freelancer.com as some viable options.

She is currently using Squarespace right now as her buildout, which seems reasonable to me. But I'm not the expert.

Any advice for pointing her in the right direction would be appreciated!

Also, I'm just now learning WordPress (my first day, eek!) Is there a proper sub-forum here to ask a WP question? I have WP installed on my custom domain, but I'm wanting just a blank home page (with only my logo) for the www.mydomainexample.com - and I will buildout the subdomains (addon pages) as blogs. I can't seem to find how/where to just set the home page as a graphic only. Not sure where to ask this. Thanks.

So an actress needs a website and you directed her to Fiverr and Freelancer? Sounds like she's going to be in for a big disappointment since she has no idea what she's doing or how to properly give them instruction/direction. At best, she'll end up with a very basic site.

Why not recommend she find a local designer? Someone she can sit down with and work face to face with? I guess it depends on what her budget is (you never mentioned) but if she can do anything north of a few hundred dollars, someone local would be the best and easiest for her to work with.

People tend to forget that sites like Fiverr, Upwork, Freelancer are kinda more geared more towards marketers or people looking to outsource their own work. When working with people on these sites you have to be very specific and articulate what you need done while also keeping constant contact to make sure they're meeting the deadline.

When it comes to small business owners or your average joe (such as an actress) they really don't know how to navigate through all the online providers and don't have the patience to deal with someone who may be working abroad or who doesn't have the same native language.

I would recommend that you research some local designers in her area (type of work they do, their price, experience, etc..) and give her your recommendation on a few people in her area who could best help her out.

Again, this also depends heavily on the budget. If she's looking to spend as little as possible or doesn't need any help marketing the site, then maybe a freelance type website may be a good recommendation. You didn't really explain her situation or budget.

Just my opinion. Hope that helps

    @chaotic squad

Excellent advice! I did some research for local designers and I have passed along those resources to her.

Meanwhile, Anne was kind enough to PM me her offer and a sample of her work, which I have passed along to my client as well.

She was quite thrilled to have all of this. Thanks to you both!

She may also give a try to other designing software like TemplateToaster, Arty, Webo etc.. I personally recommend TemplateToaster, one can create themes/templates for multiple CMSs with ease, it allows to add/edit/format the content of the website. Themes/templates made with this software will surely be SEO n mobile and many more latest features it support.

hire your designer if you don't have the ability to develop your website

There is no sub-forum that is only for WordPress but you can ask question in programming section, you will probably get more response.

Go to pages & create new page called Home.

Go to Settings -> Readings -> and change Front Page to "Home"
and make sure "Static Page" is selected.

Now use the media to upload your logo & publish.

    Hope this helps.

I think learning web design is a time consuming process. It is related to Photoshop. so firstly a learner will learn Photoshop well. then adobe Dreamweaver, notepad plus, net beans and other editor are using for web design coding. Youtube.com can play a vital role for learning web design. There so many tutorials related learning web design. You may advice to your client to visit youtube and see the tutorial. I think your client will be knowledgeable to see the tutorials.Best of luck.

Web design for clients are probably a crucial and indispensable for any firms, organizations or individuals who desire to attract as many customers as possible because it is an essential condition to promote their sales or business. However, it is probably tough to have eye-pleasing client website, if you do not have enough capacity to do it yourself, it is a good idea to hire a freelancer for establishing. Yet, if the finance situation is not allowed, you are still possible to learn through helpful websites and software. Everything will become better day by day and one day your dream about well-designed client website will come true.

I think that you are going in the right direction learning wordpress as it is a very powerful tool, I make all my sites with WP. I wouldn't bother learning Dreamweaver as that is a thing of the past, but you will still need to know basic HTML and some CSS. You should also know some basic Photoshop so you can create graphics.

YouTube could be a very valuable resource as already stated. I have started a wordpress help site, the goal is to help others with some of the same questions you have about wordpress. Right now I only have a few articles up, but it may be helpful to you, I plan on adding step-by-step videos soon, you can check it out here. Hope this helps.
