Sorry,If I am posting in wrong thread.

Hi, I have a facebook friend. He purchased a developer licence of a premium WordPress theme. Now he is selling this theme to various people at a cheap rate. Now my question is
1. Is it legal to purchase the theme?
2. If I purchase the theme from him. will he able to know where I have installed the theme.
3. Will he get access to my website?

Hard to say 100% yes or no for any of your questions. It depends on so many things.

From what I've seen, "most" premium theme's are one time use. You can often buy extended licenses, but even then it's usually not sell it how ever you want, it is usual for clients only. Not normally a free-for-all.

But, why are you asking here? If you know what theme and where it came from, why don't you check with the company that made it? They will have a license listed on their site.

From what it sounds, I doubt it's legal.

He shouldn't be able to know where you install it, unless something is put in the theme to tell him, or notify him of that. Same goes for access to your site. I kind of doubt it, but this "friend" doesn't see very legit the way your talking. So why risk it?

The other big thing, if you don't buy the theme from the legit source, then you can't get support or updates. Could be important.

First, that is not your friend's theme, he's not own it.
I think if the work is patented, the person selling it without authorization can be sued. I supposed WP themes had patents or licenses that only authorized people can use them?

On the other hand how you will update that theme, in most cases you must login somewhere with same credentials that was used when theme were bought...
The best advice is to contact original theme owners.

It depends if the theme purchased is under The GNU General Public License, or GPL. If you purchase the theme from him then you will have to get theme updates from him. He won't know where you installed the theme unless you have to enter a license key some where on the theme, and even then he may not know where it is installed.

I would not buy the theme from him. I would go to where he purchased the theme so you could get support and updates, you could probably find the theme at Theme Forest
