I am setting up a website for client who has sales offices in US and different countries. They are interested in showing a clickable map on the website, alike those interactive maps on CNN showing economy data. So users can click on a STATE or a country, and then see the contact information for the sales office of that state/country in a popup window, and then link to the corresponding web page. I need this in HTML so that the data can be pulled from MYSQL database. I found a software which does everything I need (iMapbuilder), however the interactive map iMapbuilder generates is in Flash format. I would need the map in HTML code so that data can be dynamic. I believe this can be done using HTML image map function. Do you know any example of clickable world map or US map done in hTML instead of Flash? Ted |

Hi, Ted. I'm not a Flash expert, so please don't ask me for details, but last time I looked at the Flash documentation I'm sure I saw that it's perfectly able to pull data from a database. In other words, the Flash version might work just fine for your application. Steve |

Man Steve, I swear you're following me or something, lol. Anyway, @tdjprj: Flash would probably be the best to do and iMap seems to be the best one I can find. I know there are some that are Javascript that do what you're looking for. Here's a good example: Building an interactive map with jQuery instead of Flash - New Media Campaigns You can add your own map to it and whatever you need to add to it. Here's another one: Flash and Javascript Interactive DIY Map | Web Resources | WebAppers EDIT: I found the Google map thing: http://code.google.com/apis/maps/gallery/mapsAPI.html Try that and see what you come up with. Most people use this because it's so simple and already setup for you, all you need to do is add your own information. |
