Anyone out there that can update and tweak a 5 year old theme that's been abandoned??

I have a theme I've been working with the last couple weeks that was introduced 5 years ago and I think it was just abandoned. Why do I say that? Because their website went down a week ago and their almost non-existent customer support is ridiculously slow and half-a*s. (It took a week to answer my last question and the answer they gave was as if they never read my question in the first place.)

Why stick with a 5 year old abandoned theme when there are thousands of WP themes available?

Because this theme has some unique functions I need that no other theme offers. My concern is that it will be fully abandoned after I get my site up and then I'd be screwed if there was a problem.

QUESTION:

Are there people out there that could update and tweak this theme to my requirements (remember, it's 5 years old and looks dated), and make sure it's bullet-proof reliable? If so, how would you find them? Put a proposal on freelance.com or something similar?

Thanks

I'm curious to know what unique functions a 5 year old theme can do that cannot be done with modern themes. Seems very odd...

Could that unique function be made into a plugin? Or maybe there's already a plugin on the market that can do what you're looking for? This way you can use any theme and then upload the plugin separately and maintain that as needed. Depending on what this "function" is, a plugin might be cheaper and easier than modifying the whole theme itself.

Otherwise, if that method can't be done. Have you tried contacting the theme author about paying for continued support? One reason themes lose support is that once current purchases die, there is no continual income to provide on-going support. Maybe just send an email saying that you would like to continue using the theme, and then ask what their rates are make regular updates for you.

Other than that, you could try Freelancer or Upwork too. However, they would probably be unfamiliar with the theme which would make it more difficult to communicate what exactly you would need done. Again, maybe the plugin idea would work better here.

The theme has some of the same launch functions that LeadPages (minus the monthly fee). That's a great idea to make it into a plugin. (I did a Google search and found nothing.) I will contact the developer again about possibly paying for support. Would you use Freelancer and Upwork to find someone to make a plugin? Any idea how much it costs minimum to maximum to have a plugin made?
