    I think the major thing to keep in mind when redesigning a website that retaining the same URL structure.Otherwise have a good 301 redirect strategy in place.The last thing you want is all of your pages indexed in Google throwing 404 errors because your URLs changed.

    Also, if you were ranking well previously, try to maintain the same title tags, etc. using the same structure, i.e. h1 does not now become h2, images have same file name & alt tag, etc.
