Need The Best Options For Building A Social Network Website

Not sure if this the correct forum for these questions. I apologize if it isn't.

I want to create a social networking website that may end up being more complex than simple.

I've looked at using some of the social network builders, but most of them don't seem to offer the flexibility with customization that I will need. The only thing that seems to come close would be using buddy press.

I am a novice and still learning with how to's of building websites, so I'm considering hiring a professional developer.

Any suggestions for:

1. A social network builder that allows for a lot of customization.

2. A social network Wordpress theme that allows for a lot of customization.

3. An amount I should budget for if I use a professional.


Anyone used developers from freelancer or here that you can recommend?
