Wordpress and Script

I posted this in another forum but I now realize it should have been posted here:

With my HTML website I have inserted a special lead gen java script into the <head> and this works just fine.
Recently I decided to build a new webpage using wordpress but I am not sure where I should insert the script and how to go about it.?

I have tried pasting it into the Header php through the editor but the script does not work?

I am a newbie to Wordpress and am hoping someone can assist.

    You were right to paste it into the header.php file of your Wordpress theme. However, you need to make sure that the javascript source is being referenced properly to the right location on your server.

    Otherwise, it's probably best if I actually looked at the code to see what's going on...
