One of my Wordpress Sites has slowed to a Crawl...

Site was working just fine and I don't know what happened to make it slow to a crawl.

It's slow in the admin function as well as going to the site like a visitor - from post to post it takes a loooong time to load.

BlueHost gave me some technical instructions saying it may require a programmer to assist, would like to fix without that much intensive stuff if possible.

I suppose a plugin might be the problem, but I hadn't really done anything new since the problem started except make new posts.

Someone I know using WP said same thing happened to her, then the problem magically went away.

I did install WP super cache to attempt to speed things up, and a plugin cache plugin too - did that yesterday...

I know this is a pretty open-ended question, but I thought maybe I'd get lucky and someone who had a similar problem might have a suggested investigation strategy or fix idea.

Thanks!
David

Can I preview your blog? I had a client who's blog slowed due to an embedded virus. Can't really tell what's going on until I see it for myself...

    Thanks!

Yes, please, I appreciate your time and courtesy:

      The site is howtoapproachwomennow.com

BTW, I also changed themes to what you'll see when you go there to see if that was causing the problem - no change - BUT changing the theme did fix a problem with the category archive page pulling in my sidebar and not my archived posts... I do have redirection plugin activated which I've heard can cause problems, but deactivating it also did not seem to correct any problems of slowness or the category archive problem... the previous theme did work correctly all the way around and I don't know how posting has caused problem, that's pretty much all I've done... AND I can't figure out why the category archive used to show truncated posts as I wanted, then later just pulled in the sidebar, very strange. The current them shows full posts... sheesh!

      Thanks again!

At first, I thought maybe your server was compromised and a virus/malicious code was embedded on your php files... but that doesn't seem to be the case after taking a quick glance at your source code.

    Some things to consider:

    - Are you on a shared hosting environment? What is the current CPU usage of the server you're in? You can find that out in your control panel.

    - How many plugins do you currently have installed? Try disabling one after the other (check in between). Sometimes getting rid of a plugin can fix problems, especially if it conflicts with an existing plugin or just needs to be updated.

First step is to backup the DB and the wp-content folder!

My first thought too would be to switch themes in case yours was hacked, but you did that already. Unless the hackers got to all of them???

Next would be, as Bryan suggested, a plugin. I would deactivate all plugins at once then see what happens. If that fixes it activate one at a time to find the culprit.

Last resort would be to upload a fresh copy of WP & overwrite everything but the wp-content folder and see what it does then. If still an issue upload a new theme and try that just in case all currently installed themes got hacked. (Backup first!) If still slow it is in the database or the BlueHost server. I use BlueHost too and while I have experienced brief periods of down time I have never had what you described on 4 WP sites hosed with them.
