Membership Site Creation

Hey guys and girls, how are you?

In my niche there currently are lots of FREE membership sites and, combined, these forums entertaina wopping 500.000 people across the globe! Since I see loads of people complain about a lack of HIGH quality content, and a lack of NEW content... especially made by an expert...

It would be dumb NOT to create a membership site (a paid forum if you will) to give them exactly what they want: experts who write and record stuff for them.

So the big idea is definitely there, but now I need the practical application... and Google doesn´t really help me out when it comes to selecting paid membership site software, but maybe someone on these kick *ss forums knows?

I´m basically looking for this:

- A sales letter where people are sent to the membership site after they buy
- The site url must either be protected (best option) or made obscure so it´s hard to type it in without paying (not so safe option because people can still copy paste)
- The site itself must be a forum with different categories (relating to the subniches off course), basically a forum like the warriorforum when it comes to options: username, password and password retrieval options, subscribe to threads option, and all the other stuff that almost all big forums use and it msut be able to contain a custom logo (just like these warrior forums can)
- Recurring billing must be possible, and payment via PayPal (and if possible, via creditcard) as well
- I´m planning on using video and/or audio on the site, but I assume working with a link that links TO the vidoe or audio is much easier to pull off
- I´m also thinking about using two types of membership: a gold mebership and a platinum one or so to speak, but what software allows me to give platinum people more rights than gold ones?

And the biggest question: do I even NEED a piece of membership site software for this, or just a forum with lots of options?

Hi, Dennis. There are many different ways to accomplish your goals. The one I would probably recommend (without knowing more about your budget and preferences) is aMember Pro to manage the membership plans and site protection, plus one of the popular bulletin board systems for the forum. You can get an aMember plugin that lets you integrate aMember and the forum software so that your members will only have to log in once (through aMember) and they'll be automatically logged into the forum. You can even associate each level of paid membership with a different level of access to the forum. It supports SMF, phpBB, and several others, including vBulletin (which is the software used in the Warrior Forum).

I'm looking at Wordpress Wishlist wpwishlist.com not sure it's everything you wanted (forum), but the support staff has answered cheerfully and quickly each and every pre-sales question I have had to date, so I would look them over and then ask any remaining questions - at least yo have another membership software for comparison as you do your pre-sales investigations. I'm pretty sure I'm going with them when I set up my membership site.

Hi

A number of products come to mind. Once you have a membership area setup, you can put almost anything behind it.

aMember mentioned above is good. I would also look into:

membership-2
PHP Paysite Premium v3.3.2
php auto members area
phpMembership v2.8

You will need to do a little research to see which one is best for you, but this will give you something to google and start the hunt.

I know this post is quite old but here is my input because certain things have changed.

All the plugin listed are effective. There is also a new cheap solution to starting out like the "WordPress Click Bank membership site plug" which allows payment with a Click Bank or Paypal Account. There is even a free memebrship site plug in if you just type these same keywords within WP: "membership site plug in".

I would also like to mention the complete course about making a membership site which can cut time in the leraning course: membershipsitecreation.com

There's a free membership site solution that's also available as of March 2010. Might be the only membership site solution that offers a free iPhone app for paying members, so that paying members can access premium content on-the-go.
