Web Development (Yay or Nay?)

I apologize for in advanced if I seem to uneducated starting off this thread, however, I wanted to get some feedback for a possible course of action I'd take. Basically I was going to begin learning how to become a web developer and learn basic skills necessary to improve and build websites. I'd begin by starting off a normal blog website for cheap and begin generating some traffic and affiliate markets and then immediately sell the website on Flippa.com. Then once I have built up enough capital I'd go ahead an start experimenting with buying other online businesses that are generating income and then find ways to improve the site and sell the website. Eventually I'd get to a point where if I were to find or create a website that was already generating enough income by tweaking it a little bit I could hold onto it for a temporary amount of time. Any thoughts on this would be helpful.

Sounds like a good plan, often the best way to learn is by doing through practical experience.

Everyone that owns a website should know HTML (minimum).

You don't even need an online host to learn HTML, all you need is a text file on your PC and some free online tutorials (Google search + Youtube search). That will teach you everything you need to know for building webpages.

You can even run Wordpress offline with WAMP (offline server) for learning, testing or building new WP themes.
