I have a potential client who wants me to create a landing page. What is a fair range that I should charge them?

The client is a multi-national corporation located in Canada who posted revenues last year of over $50M.

I would do research on the client and/or their direct competition. Large businesses tend to have web designers and media campaign outsources that like to brag about their clients.

So... do some Google searches and see what you can dig up about the client. Odds are they've already had at least one previous web designer which has probably mentioned the client/brand on their own site. Contact (anonymous) that web designer/media business and get their rates. If you can't find the client info. do the same research for their competition.

        • Actually, they already have a local firm that does their website design work. I can DO design, but that is not what they hired me for. This landing page project is really their way of "throwing me a bone", so to speak - a one-time project to make some quick cash. I wasn't expecting it nor did I ask for it. I have a good, friendly working relationship with the director of marketing and she just offered it to me.

I think I will charge them between $975.00 and $1,200.00 USD, make a profit, and still be able to look myself in the mirror in the morn.

Ask yourself: What you are worth?
Usually, it's a dialogue between the right and left side of your brain. Here's what probably going on inside your head:

RIGHT SIDE: How much should I charge for this?
LEFT SIDE: Well I really want $2,000, right?
RIGHT SIDE: Yeah, $2,000 would be really nice. You still have to pay off that thing.
    LEFT SIDE: What thing?
RIGHT SIDE: Oh, that. Ok. Yeah. So we need like $2,000.
LEFT SIDE: Ugghh...that client isn't going to go for $2,000. That's too expensive.
    RIGHT SIDE: Is it?
LEFT SIDE: Yeah. They don’t have that much money. You can tell. Their business doesn’t even have a Wikipedia page.
RIGHT SIDE: You’re right. They’re probably not making that much money.
LEFT SIDE: Dammit! Ok, so how much should we charge?
    RIGHT SIDE: What about $1,500?
LEFT SIDE: Yeah...that’ll probably work. You won’t be able to pay off that thing we talked about, though.
RIGHT SIDE: That’s fine. I’m ok with less. I can do another job or something later. Totally fine. Totallllllly.
    LEFT SIDE: Cool!
    RIGHT SIDE: Ok...quick question...
    LEFT SIDE: What?
RIGHT SIDE: Ummm what if $1,500 is still too high for them? You know. Because of the economy. And global warming.
LEFT SIDE: What do you mean?
RIGHT SIDE: Well, would you like...be willing to negotiate from there?
LEFT SIDE: Uhh.I guess. I mean. Yeah. I’d probably be willing to go down to like $1,250. How does that sound?
    RIGHT SIDE: $1,250?
LEFT SIDE: Yeah, $1,250. That’s still enough to pay for like...half of that thing we needed.
    RIGHT SIDE: Ok, great!
    LEFT SIDE: Yay!

P.S all figures are SUPPOSED. No relation with your project!

Let's see which of your brain side dominates. Cheers!

If you have a potential client you can charge over 500$ to $2000+ for creating a landing page.

It seems the price would be related to your perceived skill/quality and the complexity of the landing page. Is it simple or does it require more elements? I've seen an established company recently pay $2k for a webpage built using wordpress that pretty much anyone here could have built quite easily... so I think you'd be surprised what they will pay. It sounds like if they are offering it to you then you have a great chance to get a higher price on that spectrum.

I spoke with the client and the landing page won't necessarily be a typical Internet marketing landing page. This landing page will have more elements than the stripped-down version that we normally associate with a landing page.

That being said, I felt that with the time I have allotted to this project, I will charge them $1,275.00.

I think it comes down to what they expect the landing page to do - are you writing the content and doing the graphic design elements as well? If so, you will need to budget for outsourcing these elements if you aren't doing them yourself. I've written for landing pages and also for squeeze pages and they are very different. I always find that if I work well with clients in the first project and offer them a reasonable price, even if they already have marketing support engaged or services from other suppliers, should the partnership work well there is always room for ongoing work.

Depends on what kind of landing page they want. Complex structures should ask for higher prices. If it is simple, ask for a lower charge. Take note, categorize your charge according to developing the page, creating the content, and designing the image/graphics. You should also states how many revisions are your limit.
