Email Marketing/whatever

I am in the process of designing a website, and for a fairly new person to affiliate/network marketing and etc. I am going to include in the design a place for visitors to get a free ebook or audio haven't decided yet, but for someone with not much to $0 of a budget.

Does anyone know of a free but GOOD email marketing type of service whether it be download able and have to host on your own server or something, for a Mac if it has to be installed on a users machine. I know AWEBER is the top service out there but they are a pay service, anyone know of a equal service for free?

I am also open to suggestion on this on how I would be able to easily allow users to input their name and email for the free ebook or audio, simply as possibly without a ton of programming on my end because I am horrible and have no experience with code.

    The best thing to do the autoresponder with I would think would be to use a linux server that has cpanel. The newer mail systems includes an autoresponder. Ask your host to see if it is included.

    I remember installing phplist for one of my clients in the past. It's free/open-source and can be installed on your server.

    I totally forgot that my host had an autoresponder feature but I think its very scaled down to what I am looking for, have to check it out some more.

    iBBnet phplist looks cool it seems a bit over my head, but seems some features I might use and some not so much, it looks like one thing which would allow me to send out emails, and I think manage my list, remove people etc.

    But I dont know if I mentioned in my first post the specifics, I am looking for something similar to Yaro Starak to capture their email and name to giveaway a book or audio, similar to how AWEBER does it with creating your ad with a graphic and then then provide other code to place on your site.

    phplist is a good find hopefully I can put it to some good use.
