Low organic traffic after almost a year of website creation

Hi
I tried competing in the background check niche. built a small sub>sub niche website and managed to see some small profit. I have very few back links, but all ~100 pages are very content rich and SEO friendly.
seeing that small success,
so about a year ago I decided to invest in a bigger site, aiming for harder keyword.
I analyzed the main competitors, Research keywords and grabbed the ones with enough search.
my article are ~500 word and very SEO friendly

I invested hundred of $ in lots of content, development and design, everything by the (SEO) book.
but still I cant get the site to rank for the main keywords and having very low traffic.
its a real shame since this was a major project and involved lots of effort.

I will appreciate it if you can give me any direction of what to check/test before I give up on this

thanks,

    Hi Steven,

    Welcome to the forum.

With all that investment have you invested anything in paid traffic?

Have you got any traffic that can give you any data via your analytics and webmaster tools?

What is your visitor user experience like?

When you analysed your competitors did you research where they are getting their traffic from?

If you have low organic traffic and have already invested time and money you might want to send some paid traffic so you get some valid data to work with.

    Best regards,

    Ozi

After hard work, it is hard luck to you, but don't get disappointing. Your first low competition website is getting very good traffic and profit after one year, but for new website you have chosen little hard keyword to get ranking. So, you might get result little late. Don't loss heart. Meanwhile you must start new project to overcome disappointment.
My personal experience is whenever I get disappointed I just login to this great forum and found inspiration.

      Best luck ahead.

      Pradeep

Boy it could be anything. Do you have a sitemap set up? Even that I suppose won't matter so much because eventually your stuff will get crawled and indexed.

Are you making any changes as you go to optimize? Sometimes I think it could be just one small thing and then BAMM... We wake up to see our analytics account explode...

    Don't give up but learn

    Working to achieve higher results...

Hello all any thanks for replying

With all that investment have you invested anything in paid traffic? YES

Have you got any traffic that can give you any data via your analytics and webmaster tools? YES. but top places are very odd - for example I am seeing that people who are searching for a competitor website like indianarrest .org are getting my site in position 6.
I also see other Queries but CTR is very low.

What is your visitor user experience like? hmm dont have an answer to this. how would you suggest that I can check this?

When you analysed your competitors did you research where they are getting their traffic from? I did. they have tons of links, probably bought them, however I dont have this amount of budget to buy links, press release etc and I preferred not to do this.
my smaller website managed to get good results and good traffic and CTR after 3 months just from the good content
    .

If you have low organic traffic and have already invested time and money you might want to send some paid traffic so you get some valid data to work with. I did. sent adwords PPC but ROI wasnt good enough to continue with this as I saw that I was losing money at the end of the day.

I do have a sitemap set up. its one of the first things I am checking. I am using jetpack an yoast SEO as plugins.
I am following (almost I think) all SEO rules, tags, meta descriptions, titles, paragraph length, keyword usage in title, H1 and in article bodey...

I am using a modified muffin theme(paid a developer to redesign it)
someone suggested that the theme I am using might be hindering my efforts. I checked the source of my pages but didnt find anything. can this be?

can it be that this niche has become super hard???

    thanks again

A different traffic source other than search engine marketing is the best way to go. Social media marketing may be worth looking into.

    Steve,

You are competing with so many other marketers around the world.

I would just move on from this traffic strategy and focus on PAID ads.

Forgive me if i'm misunderstanding - but did you say you started out in Background Checks (Highly competitive) and then moved on to an even MORE competitive niche? With all do respect, why would you do that to yourself?!? Lol... personal opinion: that money would have been much spent on a LESS competitive niche than your original background check niche (which is very ambitious esp for a noob btw).... remember: you're spotted more often and easily as a big fish in a small pond than a whale in the pacific Ocean - unless you have VERY established domains, GOOD affiliates, and a TON of money for advertising (hundreds won't cut it, a few thousand USD wouldn't even begin to cut it for that matter, we're talking 10k-100k/yr in advertising) OR you happen to be REAL good friends with a major celebrity who is willing to promote you - you're not going to be a known name in an industry at that level of competitiveness... I like your ambition though, but work smarter, not harder :-)

What I said(or meant) is that I started a sub niche in 'background check' and than I went up one level, thinking to myself that my current strategy will work as well. it turned out wrong, as I didnt see my website advance the way I intended (not even close).
      anyway, thanks for your opinion.
by the way, do you still believe that today there is still a chance to rank well without buying traffic and spending hundreds of dollars?
looks like affiliate marketing has become a source of income only for wealthy people

You obviously didn't do SEO or your pages would be ranked.

The background check niche is competitive so If you can't do SEO there's no chance you'll rank a page for decent traffic keywords.

You're trying to take on the pros without having any experience.

Learn SEO or find another traffic source.
