How to make money online as a web designer

I was making decent money on elance.com but since they'be been acquired by upwork, my income was drastically reduced due to the fact that there is a lot of competition from third world countries. Also most clients are not looking for quality work. I live in Toronto so working for $5/h is not an option.

Template sites like themeforest.net are also full of competition with people willing to work very cheap.

Launching my web design business is out of the question. I don't have the money or the connections. I also have a full time job.

I am just looking to make some extra money on the side.

I build websites for a living: design + front end (css + html) and some WordPress.

    If you want to get extra income then you can check the freelancer.com and fiverr websites. But to get a lot of clients, you need to get some good reviews and ratings. After getting good reviews, you will be able to earn a decent amount of money. In freelancer website, you can get good reviews and ratings by participating in the contents. By winning the contests, you can increase your profile rating and you can also receive money rewards. Fiverr is also a good website for the freelancers, but people usually sell cheap services in fiverr. People usually earn more through freelancer website than fiverr but you can use both of them to increase your income.
