Joomla vs Wordpress

I just signed up for hosting on hostgator and while they're resolving stuff with namecheap(my registrar) I thought I should install wordpress on my ftp. But I stumbled upon some really cool templates for joomla and now I'm not able to decide which one to install.
Can you guys help me?

Is it possible to make a blog on wordpress in a joomla based website..........for example:
I put up a joomla template for my main website www.twitypedia.com and then I install wordpress in a sub-folder in the public html folder under blog, so my wordpress blog will be at www.twitypedia.com/blog

Is this possible?? And is it good??

It's possible to use both, but you then have the extra headache of having to sets of administration tasks to attend to.

It largely comes down to what you need your site to do. I used to use Joomla almost exclusively until I discovered Wordpress, which I now use for everything. As it stands, the only thing I would now use Joomla for is if I wanted a video gallery, as the only really good video gallery extension is for Joomla. For virtually everything else, I find Wordpress to be the way.

If it comes specifically down to the fact you want to use the Joomla templates you find, I can probably convert the template to a Wordpress theme if you want (for a small fee). Feel free to shoot me a PM if that would be a help.

But otherwise, my recommendation is always use Wordpress unless there is something specific that you really need to do, that Joomla will facilitate.

I love wordpress , easy to setup, customize and SEO prosses. So far I try Joomla very hard to setting templete and all modules make stress

No. I actually didn't find any theme yet. I just went searching for themes and landed on rocketthemes.com. The templates there are really cool so I was just wondering if I should put Joomla as the main site and attach a wordpress blog onto it.
BTW how would you convert joomla to wordpress. Maybe I could learn......because I used all the money I had on Paypal in buying hosting from hostgator for six months.

wordpress is easy to install & learn and best in terms of SEO but poor modules.

It all depends on your needs. They're both good choices. Wordpress is more of a blogging platform, while Joomla is a full fledged CMS. They can both be customized and be seo friendly.

If you require CMS features, I'd go with Joomla. It has a longer learning curve than Wordpress, but once you figure it out you can do anything with it.

You have to know where you are going to take your site to. If your focus is mainly blogging, Wordpress is less complex and a more gradual learning curve. But if you intend to go towards a complex site with forums, shopping cart etc, then Joomla is worth your time investigating.

Here is a Joomla component that claims to "seamless" integrate Wordpress into Joomla. I have not tried it before so cant tell you how it will perform.

Anyway, whichever system you decide to use, my suggestion is to implement one that serve 80% of your needs while using 20% of your time

i personally prefer Joomla, but my wife prefers Wordpress. I am not a marketer but from a marketers point of view Wordpress would be the better way to go. Unless your looking at what was said: More complicated content.

I use and develop on both.

If you're just going to blog, you can't beat Wordpress. If you are going to have different "types" of information or need user functions, I would go with Joomla.

I've done what you mentioned about running both platforms on one domain. I created a matching template file for both platforms. It looks seamless to the reader, but it's not as convenient to administer.

There is a learning curve with Joomla, but once you get how to do things on that platform, it's no harder than Wordpress.

I use both but prefer Joomla because I mainly develop websites, not blogs. By the way, you can istall extentions to make your joomla website looks like a blog.

I would recommend that you use both. Joomla for static website, and WordPress for blog.

This way you can have the best of both worlds and it will help you in your SEO as well.

Like it has been said before it depends on what you want to achieve in the future.

Be aware also that there is a new component this year for joomla call "K2", which is specifectly designed for catalog style websites, Magazines, and also blogs.

Or you could use wordpress. Easier but more limited.

I've setup and Used Joomla as my first platform and it setup pretty easily to me. I don't know if Wordpress offers a CMS system, but I know Joomla does. Also its pretty easy to take Joomla and make it into a simple website.

Not to derail the topic, but what are the advantages of using sh404sef over the default Joomla SEF settings. Looking at the extensions list it seems to accomplish the same thing without having to modify your htaccess file.

Joomla is not for the faint of heart. It has MANY features and many consider it too "clunky".

One tip... choose your CMS BEFORE choosing your theme. Don't make the decision to use one or the other based on a nice theme you found.

You have more control over the url's and can customize them.

Corephp.com have recently released an extension which integrates wordpress into joomla sites.
I have built websites on all kinds of platforms in every which way and never really had a preference, the decision was usually based on best solution for the clients needs.
That was before I discovered Wordpress, I now find it hard to convince myself there is a better solution. I
t has been a winner for me this year and is only just gaining momentum. My Opinion - Stick with Wordpress and you can't go wrong.

I'd say Wordpress but there's a bias cuz I've been handling Wordpress since v2.0

I've tried Joomla once, but their backend mind-boggled me. What I like about Wordpress is it's simplicity in getting it to do whatever I want it to do.

I would recomend Wordpress. In my opinion is easy to handle, has better tools and it works great for e-marketers.
