Warriors. Wordpress or not to Wordpress....that is the Question?

Dear Respected Warriors,

For some time the Wordpress (WP) site technologies has been around for a number of years now and the years in the fast-paced IM world makes some technologies archaic, no doubt.

Few days ago, I was asked by a colleague; which is the better format to design/publish website, in HTML or the Wordpress?

Now some initial considerations for the Wordpress came to the mind:
  • Wordpressing is very suitable for the bloggings, that is well given.
  • Wordpress are also very suitable for some very beautiful websites
  • But, the WP require more maintenance in terms of a wide array of feature plug-ins for tweaks etc. - can be quite involved.
  • Security ring-fencing plug-ins is also must for Wordpressing nowadays due to cyber attacks
  • As I understand, Wordpress site is better hosted with a specialist hosting compared to normal HTML sites using the good old and ever reliable cPanels

So in respect of above;
  • What Specialist/dedicated Hosting Provider would respected warriors recommend for a Wordpress site?
  • What *essential things* must be in place for a new live showcase or basic business Wordpress site nowadays?
  • Are the Wordpressed Sites more faster loading compared to HTML sites?
  • What about cross-browser compatibility (mobile & desktop) issues these days for Wordpress?
......Any other key considerations and observations?

    Google is your best friend. My favorite web hosting provider is myself.

    What essential things must be in place for a new live showcase or basic business Wordpress site nowadays?
    WordPress websites needs at least a security plugin to improve security, because WordPress core include only basic protection, passed in few minutes by a good hacker.

    Are the Wordpressed Sites more faster loading compared to HTML sites?
    HTML sites may load more quickly than WordPress, because of PHP compile time. But it is very small if you choose a good web hosting provider and PHP 7.

    What about cross-browser compatibility (mobile & desktop) issues these days for Wordpress?
    As like a basic HTML site, responsive design is the main cross-browser compatibility factor. So, both HTML and WordPress, your web designer should make the same things to enable cross-browser compatibility. WordPress is not a factor about cross-browser compatibility.

    For a Specialist Hosting Provider, I would highly recommend WPX Hosting - they tick all of the boxes that you have listed in your post. They are WordPress specialists and provide a lot of free extras for WordPress users, such as free WHOIS Protection, HTTP/2, free backups, DDoS security and free migrations.

    As for WordPress Essentials, I would suggest getting a strong security plug-in, like Wordfence, and a good SEO plug-in too, like Yoast! Jetpack provides similar benefits, but these are the two main ones I'd suggest any WordPress user to get.

    As stated already, HTML will load faster, but this matters little with a strong host. That's why I recommended WPX, as they are one of the fastest hosting providers (using HTTP/2) and are up-to-date with PHP7.

    WordPress is cross-browser compatible and there are plenty of themes that can provide a responsive and dynamic WordPress site across multiple devices.

      * apart from the WPX Hosting (which looks very goot) is there any other WPressing Specialist Reliable Hostings can you recommend please for the more budgetary conscious start-up requirements?

      * when hosting to publish the wordpress site; how does one get the two essentials plug-ins you have advised, namely the WordFence & Yoast? ....do we request to the hosting provider to add these in? Or is just a case of search plug and play?

        Of course, I will answer as much as I can.

        If WPX Hosting is too costly, I understand. I do not know many other hosting companies of comparable quality on a lower budgetary level, apart, perhaps, from SiteGround. They are the most closely relatable company to WPX I would imagine. WP Engine also come close, but are even more expensive, so forget about them.

        Absolutely keep away from EIG companies (Bluehost, HostGator, etc) as well as GoDaddy. I know they are cheaper, but they're not reliable and are quite below standards. You'd have a tough time with them in the long run.

        As for the Plug-ins, that's quite straightforward. Once you have your website up and running, and have installed WordPress (your hosting provider should guide you through this, it's quite simple), you will find a 'Plugins' option on your WordPress dashboard.
        From there, you can search for plugins you know by name or browse categories. In the search field, I would recommend searching for Yoast SEO plugin and Wordfence security plugin.
        These are both free, so enjoy!

    html and wordpress loding time i cant see any difference in both of them. but some of wordpress plugin is best like lazyload etc.

      We can also setup LazyLoad on a HTML/CSS/JS page. WordPress will make few times compiling PHP and requesting database, which is not necessary for HTML sites as they send directly stored content to the client host.

    -My company prefers GoDaddy. We find their support to be top notch, service reliable and inexpensive. We prefer virtual private servers.

    -Step 1 is figuring out what the purpose of the site is. From there those answers will tell you what functionality the site will need to accomplish said goals. There are TONS of tools , plugins , tweaks and what not that can be done to wordpress to accomplish any number of things.. for example.. Is the site going to be static or is it something that ill be updated regularly? Is the ability of updating it yourself regularly without needing to code (or hire someone who can code) to make said updates really important to you? If so then you know that you should focus on getting a wordpress theme or plugin that gives you a very powerful front end site editor. On the other hand that might not be important to you, and there are many reasons NOT to use a site builder theme or plugin. It all depends on that business and its clients specific priorities.

    -Honestly don’t know the answer to this.

      Thank you for chiming in on this, firstly GoDaddy hosting has very mixed reviews;
      I would not personally recommend it, but anyhow; ok, what you have expressed above in Step 1, in terms of the considerations is exactly the reason I started this thread - the great minds think alike! You are very correct, one could be forever tweaking and pugging a Wordpress site and take the eye off the main business objectives, I was asked this and my initial assessment was that it was for more a static site requirements - hence the mantra I follow and sure many other warriors agree is the KISS methodology - keep it simple stupid!

    Hi, lqball!
    In my opinion the best way to go about this is to build the website yourself as you can implement anything you would like and it would be easier for you to manage the code yourself, also one more benefit of coding yourself is that you can manually set SEO structures on your website, as you may already know, Wordpress misses out on some apsects of SEO optimization and sometimes isn't best for optimizing, you can look at the source code of a wordpress site and a manually built site and see major differences. With that being said, I think it's best to build your own website from scratch.

    I have used both. HTML sites are quicker in loading time. Wordpress reminds me of a huge animal, who is very clumsy in movements. But it has a huge supportive plug ins, that make your life easier.
    From my point of view, Wordpress sites are more vulnerable to hacking. Having that problem all the time despite Wordfence plug in active. You just have to choose yourself, there is no one universal rule which one is better.

    HTML sites are faster in operation : For most basic websites with less dynamic contents HTML will usually outperform Wordpress. Loading time matters in SEO.

    Some steps I always take:

    Install a Captcha, first thing.

    Delete all the preinstalled plugins and themes.

    Set Permalinks to "post title."

    Delete "sample" pages.

    Create a "home" and "posts" page.
