Do you have to referenve photos on your site?

Hi all.

When you get photos/pictures on the internet for your website, do you have to acknowledge or refernce the people or website.

Would you get sued if you don't and do you have to buy it somehwere? Where do you gys get your pictures from?

Photos and images are copyrighted just as text is.

If you plagiarize (copy/steal) text from someone's website you may get a "cease and desist" letter. If you steal an image and use it you may get a very large bill.

A google search of "royalty free images" will find several sites where there are some images clearly labeled as free to use - and many more with reasonable fees to download and use them.
