I have a niche site that contains about 19 articles and the homepage is about 3500 words. Every article is above 500 words. I use WordPress as CMS.

This niche is very narrow. So I want to add more topics related to niche and want to make a dynamic homepage that does not contain a lot of words.

I'm scared because I've tried to rank homepage but it didn't. Another page is ranked in google. So I'm thinking to change static homepage to dynamic homepage.

Is it a good idea? Then what should I do?

Yes, if you plan to expand your site and add more content and switching to a dynamic (database backed) solution would help. In your particular case, I recommend Wordpress.

Since you don't really have lot of pages as of now, you can manually move the pages one by one to Wordpress. It's very easy and even search engine friendly.

On advice - if you current site is old and/or have pages indexed in search engines then make sure you either keep the URLs same or add a permanent redirect (302) for each old URL to corresponding new URL. This will help preserve your search engine rankings.
