I'm new to affiliate marketing and I need some helping figuring out what are the main differences between wordpress.com and wordpress.org. If you guys can can you briefly just list out the differences for quick reference?

I also want to create an affiliate site so which one is most effective? I'm using a MacBook so I feel like hosting on .org will slow my computer. btw thats all I know about wordpress.org.

WordPress is the name of the software. The two sites offer different ways to create and maintain a WordPress site.

WordPress.org is the site that holds documentation for the software and links to download WordPress so you can host your own WordPress site on your own server (or a webhost that you rent/pay for). WordPress.com is a commercial website (run by the company that created WordPress) where you can sign up to have THEM host WordPress for you on THEIR servers.

In a nutshell, if you have the knowledge to host a webpage on your own server (or a server that you rent from a webhost), then you can download WordPress from WordPress.org and upload it to your server - boom! You've got your very own installation of WordPress that is totally under your control.

If you do not have the knowledge to install WordPress on a webhost and/or don't have a webhost, then you might want to go sign up for an account with WordPress.com so they can host it for you.

You sound like a WordPress.com type of guy.

If you use wordpress.com you can build your website for FREE while if you use wordpress.org you have to download wordpress and installed it on your own hosting with your own domain name . You have to pay for the hosting and domain services.

I would need a business subscription with wordpress.com so that adds to the fixed budget i have on making this website. Id also like more plugins so it seems like wordpress.org is my best option. Although its a huge learning curve i think its worth it. I could be wrong, please correct me if you think I'm making a mistake

If you need to have a subscription form on your website and you need more plugins then wordpress.org is the best option . Bear in mind you have to install wordpress on your server and have a domain name.

Wordpress.org is better than Wordpress.com as far as Affiliate marketing is concerned. Since you already have a domain, Buy a hosting plan from a web host , install wordpress, point your domain to the host and create your site.
