Google analytics unable to track traffic from twitter

is it true that links posted in twitter are not tracked by google analytics. when shortened by bit.ly each link shows a lot of clicks but the amount doesnt add up when compared to the analytics of the site

Will this be counted by GA?

Well, this click will be counted as the URL shortening services do not hide referrers!
