Default Need advice about godaddy

Hello everyone I am going open a new website. I decided that I use godaddy for host my site.
But yesterday I heard something about godaddy. Please tell me is that comments are ture?

" The service is crap and the try to on-sell you stuff at any opportunity.
1. It's over complicated.
2. You can't buy a product with out wading though pages of on-sell products - ugrade this, review this, arrggg! Then they try to slip an extra year on your plans, and hope you didn't notice. Hang on - this is supposed to cost 12.50, bot 25!
3. They don't support Dreamweaver. If I am wrong please correct me.
4. They send you 'special offer' email every other day."

Two words for ya..... Don't Use Them!...Ok sorry three words.

p.s. Use them only for domain name purchase...do NOT use them for hosting accounts.

I too have heard bad experience about them.

You can buy domain name from NameCheap.com, and hosting from hostgator, if you want.

I used them a few years back for some kind of domain parking service. I have never been back. But you are correct that they try to get you to upgrade. How do you think they pay for that fancy Indy car?

I use them and have had no problems they have excellent customer service, I have a linux account and have about 10 websites, I pay a total of 6.99 cents total per month for hosting.......

Most people here will say go with another because godaddy is more complex, yada yada yada, which is true to a degree but the real issue is no one wants to learn HOW to use godaddy, I have had no issues with godaddy at all. Their customer service is probably the best and most friendly out there, its 24/7 365 days a year and they will walk you through anything you need done aslong as it realtes to their hosting service.

They do try and upsell so look at things before you click the final payment button which should be done always no matter who you buy from, they do send coupons and discounts to you periodically, I get around 1 email a week from them.......... You can get domains from them for around 7.00 if you use a promo code, look it up from the search box on this forum and you will find some that work.

I think they are a good domain name service provider but don't have the best hosting services - at least from my experience.

GoDaddy hosting is pretty poor, especially its shared hosting (i.e. what you are looking for)

I once was speaking to someone who was with GoDaddy and their website was down/really slow all the time. I did a bit of digging and found out that they were hosting over 1,400 websites on one (quite low-powered) server! The server simply couldn't cope. Did they care? Nope.

Someone like HostGator (albeit an 'unlimited' host meaning you need to watch your space and bandwidth usage carefully) would be a much better choice.

Not only is the hosting poor, I have had a terrible experience with them. We, at one time, had multiple domains and hosting accounts with them. We decided that we did not want to keep a website (and hosting plan) that was not performing and let the renewal lapse.

They told us that since we did not notify them we were automatically renewed and responsible for another year of hosting fees. No problem right, I just won't pay... Well they started to turn off our OTHER hosting plans under the same account. Needless to say we were held hostage to pay them.

Full disclosure... this was a few years ago and I have been told that this practice no longer happens, but it put enough of a bad taste in my mouth that I decided I would never use them again.

Good luck to you whatever you decide.

I think it's good when it comes to buy a domain... so far? Try to stop and use something like hostgator better.

I use Godaddy for all my domain registrations, and they have AWESOME customer service; however, that is the only product I buy from them.

My hosting is through Hostgator. I've heard nothing but horror stories about Godaddy's hosting. If you're just going to have a simple static web site or use their website builder, you'll probably be okay. But I don't think I'd ever put a web application on their hosting.

I've never hosted with GoDaddy, but from experience speaking with people over the years their hosting doesn't seem to rank very highly.

Personally I use GoDaddy/Moniker to register domains, then host them on HostGator or LiquidWeb.

I think the general feeling from this thread is to stay away from their hosting offer.

Go Daddy for domain purchase/manage/redirects. Nice people, but the hosting sucks.

HostGator for hosting. GREAT people.

If you never bought a product from them, than even registering a domain name will seem hard to you.

I also buy all of my domain from them, but that it is. Be very carefull the first time you'll buy a domain, they will upsell you like crazy.

I have bought my domain from them and I must confess that I am happy with my purchase. I have not found that they send me any daily or weekly emails.

I do agree that when you try to sign up you get a lot of pages where they try to up sell you all kinds of everything inclulding of course hosting.

All you need to do is stay focus and purchase your domain and get out of there.

I was advised not to buy my hosting from them so being new to this I took the advise not because I got bad service from them but because I was simply listening to the advise of someone who have been around Online Marketing at that level more than I have.

Wait til you get a one spam complaint and they hold your site hostage til you pay a fine which it happened to me.
I got one double opted in subsrciber complain to godaddy once and it cost me almost 500 bucks to get it back.
After that I switched to hostgator for hosting and do namecheap to buy my domains. Been happy ever since.

I've been with Godaddy for at least the last 6 years. I have 2 hosting accounts, dozens of domain names and I've never had any problems.

Sure they are always trying to sell you something but after all they are a business.

Take care

Hey, I like the customer service at GoDaddy and I sometimes buy domain names from them, but webhosting is not that great and it is over priced. One of my sites was down 3 times this year. I never get notices about my other hosting company.

If you have already signed up with them for hosting, just ride it out. I have bought domains from them with no problems. Yes, they do upselling but like someone mentioned that is part of their business. There were a few positive replies which is good.

It is not the end of the world and maybe you will be very pleased with them.

All the best!

It seems like few people have a reason to hate on GoDaddy, they just say "don't use it, it sucks" and maybe offer some anecdotal evidence.

Well, to help balance that out, I'm hosting 5 websites with GoDaddy and have never had a problem. Plus, they offer Windows hosting for ASP programmers like myself.

Need Advice.........
1) Yes, a bit.
2) True.
3) Dreamwever is just a software to make websites. Once a website is made it doesn't matter how you built it, it's always HTML or PHP or whatever and Godaddy can't "not support" them.
4) You can choose to not receive e-mails.

In a few words, Godaddy is NOT good. I registered a few years ago, but typed a wrong phone number by mistake. Then I purchased a domain plus hosting account, and started to build my site. The day later I received a mail from them saying that they tried to call me to say welcome, but the number was not correct and they had to close my account.

I've had very few problems with godaddy, I have 30 some domains with them as well as 2 virtual servers, one of which I've had for 4 years. The support for hosting is not great but to be honest most of the hosting problems I've had were self inflicted :-) The few problems I have had that were actually on their end were fixed quickly...

I've got 2 domains hosted.

Admin is complicated and unintuitive but I feel that it's not worth moving away from at the mo - all else seems OK.

Justhost is easier and hostgator seems to be highly recommended.

Of course they try to upsell you, that's what any good business will do. Don't fault them for that. I have been using GD for a long time and I have had ZERO issues with them. A lot of my friends use Hostgator as well, but for me, GD has been way beyond stellar. I have several websites that I host with GD. If I ever have a question or issue with anything, I call them, and everything is fine. I cannot speak highly enough for my experience with GoDaddy.

I had so bad experience with godaddy. It is a great liar. To me ,it is both the biggest registrar and the biggest cheat in the arena of domain and hosting.

I have used GoDaddy for domain names and for Linux hosting. The hosting was slow and had issues so I have moved all of my web sites to my HostGator account. I really like how fast HostGator is and the Cpanel. I use Godaddy for all my domain name purchases.

'Godaddy' dont you understand what they really want to say

Godaddy means GO to daddy , ya give them your money and than go to your dad and say i was scam and wa wa wa.

Simple Godaddy means GO AWAY.

They do more emphasise on their advertisement rather than on their service.

NO NO NO if you want to success.

GoDaddy has a proprietary control panel. The vast majority of other providers use CPanel which has become the defacto standard in the hosting industry. The reason for that is because it offers much more flexibility and many more options than most proprietory control panels. It also allows you to backup your site into a 'cpmove' file which can be restored on any host that provides CPanel. That can be a major time saver if/when you do decide to move to a new host or upgrade to a dedicated server.

Big GoDaddy / Wild West fan here Their domains, Website Tonight, Quick Blogs, Quick Cart....all rock. Been with them for many years, for clients and for our own company sites.

We do not receieve daily or any such promos regularly, just an FYI. And you can click quick check outs to bypass upsells, etc.

Note: GoDaddy exec, Bob Parsons (CEO of Go Daddy), spoke at Yanik’s Underground in DC last year, if you get a chance to review the recording of it anywhere. A +

For me, GoDaddy is a great domain provider. My friends and colleagues have registered their web hosting needs to GoDaddy for several years now. And they seem to enjoy it. In fact, they have nothing to complain about it.

But if you're still uncertain if you'll go for GoDaddy's services, I think you must seek more advice from others. But for me and for my friends and colleagues, GoDaddy is smashing.

All the best,

Oliver

Need Advice.........
I have had GoDaddy for over 2 years with multiple unlimited hosting accounts and have never had a problem. If you use Joomla and/or Wordpress, like I do, you will find that installing the applications and upgrading them to their most current versions is very easy.

For instance, CPanel hosts were still installing Joomla 1.5.8 while we are currently on version 1.5.14

1. Is false if you know how to read english
2. So does Amazon
3. Who still uses Dreamweaver?
4. So does Amazon

Dear nomanbd,

Not a fan of GoDaddy for hosting! Their domains are cheap, but that's because they are hoping to upsell you on other useless things and hosting... well I'd say their hosting is not the best solution!

I can tell you I really love HostGator.com. Their support is amazing - The respond super quick, and they are especially helpful. You can get a baby hosting plan for as little as 5 dollars a month and host unlimited domains. I'm currently using the business plan, which is 12.95 per month, but I have unlimited domain hosting, unlimited bandwidth, and they give you all sorts of freebies including a free 800 number. They are great

Best of luck to you.

GoDaddy is OK for dedicated servers, but I like Hostgator for shared hosting and 1GreenHost for domain names.

I had a problem where my domains were stolen from my godaddy account (my email was hacked) and sitting in someones godaddy account. It was hell to get just one back. Lots of calls and lots of BBB complaints. One expired before I could get it. Then they gave one back along with two free backorders. So I give them 50/50.

Within a month of setting up my website at GoDaddy, the site was down for two days. Support (which I was on hold for 30 min. for) said it was a database issue on their end. Two days to resolve.

I had no traffic to the site yet. It's a basic WordPress site.

I move to HostGator and I've been extreemly happy so far. No problems, their cPanel is super-easy to use and their support is very responsive.

I followed the majority of the WF recommendations for going with HostGator and I'm very glad I did.

I use GoDaddy to purchase domain names and then point the nameservers to my account at HostGator. It is true what some are saying in this thread that GoDaddy is difficult to navigate especially if you are new to website ownership. GoDaddy has great prices on domain names, but you can host unlimited domains at HostGator for around $12 a month.

All hosts do it, but Godaddy is bad. The home page is so slow as well

They do. I was wrong about this

True, but most host do it to some degree.

I have found a combination of Dotster and my own VPS to be a great combo.

Good luck
