Best way to monetize my website?

I would like some input towards how to best monetize a new website I have been designing:

choveveitzion.wordpress.com

I am in the process of developing a website on the subject of home repairs. At first, I figured I would monetize the site by referring people who need a repairman -- and taking a percentage.

In addition, this might be a way for me to get additional jobs as a repairman. Plus, perhaps I could offer advertising to others.

More recently, I was thinking just to offer tutorials on five or six plumbing repairs around the house -- and charging if they want to see other kinds of repairs like: electrical, doors, locks, closets, etc.

1. Is this a good idea?

2. Is around $10, $15, or $20 a good price to charge and then they can see all the different kinds of repairs?

3. Should I show all these tabs even before they have paid, and when they click on the tab they are informed that these tabs they must pay for?

What are your suggestions?

    Hi, Arnie

Just make user friendly website, easy to navigate, niche content about your services.

use some picture according to your business.

If you are just wanting to attract customers for your offline business, a free blog on Wordpress.com will work; however, the last time I checked, you can't add ads. Blogspot will let you though.

When people talk about using Wordpress for their affiliate sites, they are talking about the self hosted version downloaded from Wordpress.org and installed on their own hosting.

You can sell ads directly, find information products on Clickbank to offer, run Google Adsense, or sign up for and promote affiliate products. However, a lot a affiliate networks won't approve you if you are using a free site

      Thank you for your replies!

Designerpk: thank you for your suggestions. I definitely agree that the website should be user friendly, easy to navigate, with good content. But I think you missed my main questions.

How should I monetize the site. Should I give all the information for free? Should I only give a little for free, and the rest of the info at a charge? If yes, are the tabs too disappointing (before paying).

Cma01 thank you also for your response. You got me a little concerned. So I looked at Wordpress.com at this page:

      en.support.wordpress.com/advertising/

It seems to me from what they say that my kind of site might be acceptable. They don't allow things like Google adsense.

When I said advertising, I didn't mean that. What I meant was perhaps some locals might want to advertise on my site. I think this they allow.

They say they have low tolerance for blogs for 'commercial purposes'. But my kind of blog I think they would allow since it gives lots of helpful information.

      Do you agree?

What about my questions about monetizing. Do you have suggestions?

Well, I really don't know, I use the self hosted version. I have set a couple of people up on Wordpress.com just because they wanted a fast free blog to integrate with their regular site and I remember reading that.

My concern would be that if you crossed whatever line they have regarding commercial services that your site could get shut down. Just make sure you back up your posts regularly.

Your idea for offering tutorial downloads would work, but I think that would probably cross Wordpress.com's line into a "commercial" site.

Thank you cma01 for your words of caution. I was thinking just that (after your first post) that I should back up whatever I create.

Can anyone answer me concerning my monetizing questions (what is the best approach)?

First of all: you'll be using this site to generate money and you need to be professional about it.

So it's important to buy your own domain.

About monetizing your website: you'll be competing with other providers of the same services.

            So it's important to:

            1. Again, have a professional domain. Your competitors do.
            2. You don't have to guess how you're going to monetize the site: just do what your competitors do. They have allready did the hard work of researching the market. If they do what they do it's because it works, so just build from there.

            Good luck.
