I've been operating a web-based business for a few months, but it's become quite clear to me that I'm missing an important fundamental: tracking urls and where my customers come from.

I CAN see in the AWstats panel where my visitors are coming from, but I CANNOT see what sources my customers (who actually bought something) came from. How can I track this?

A few weeks ago I had a problem with order fulfillment and someone recommended dlguard. So far they've proved to be VERY useful. Can someone recommend a system that tracks clicks in a similar way?

I'm aware that there is a lot of work involved in editing each and every link; but that's part of the process, and not what worries me.

Ideally, I need something that would indicate to me much like Aweber does what link a customer clicked (or series of links in the case of multiple sales pages) to get to the paypal purchase page.

Dan

P.S. If you've used a tool that you would recommend or wouldn't, please by all means mention it here, as it will help me make my decision.

    Hi,

    Try using Google Analytics.

You can set up "goals" (eg. sales) in the control panel and you can monitor the soruce with the highest conversion rate or highest amount of sales.

You could also make custom reports which could display even more specific stuff such as the highest paying "time" or highest paying day of the week.

If you need any help there's a whole Google analytics forum which you could post on.

    Regards
    George

Thanks. I'm thinking of Google A. as my last resort. Not because it's free, but because it's so difficult to configure. For some reason it never clocks all my traffic either.

I advice you against Google Analytics. Not because they're not good, but because in this way Google will know exactly how much money you make.

And if you use Adwords to promote your business and with the banning that's happening these days....you get my point.

You can use Adtrackz. I have been using it for years and didn't had any problems. There are newer solutions, but I like this software.

        Hope this helps.
