Wordpress-PayPal buy now button

Hello good Warrior's!

Say I'm in a bit of a dilemma with my PayPal button on my Wordpress static page which I host with Hostgator.

What I want is for a customer to be able to click on the buy now button and get taken to PayPal and than directed to my thank you page after their purchase.

The closest I've been able to come to that is using the PayPal code for email instead of website so when they click on the buy now button they do go to PayPal and are able to pay but at that point I receive an email advising me of the purchase and the customer doesn't get directed anywhere.

This I believe is a known conflict with wordpress as wordpress doesn't like Java scripts and in order for the customer to automatically be returned it seems I need a bit of Java to make this happen.

If anyone has a way around this it would be great!
Please know that I'm a beginner at reading code and layman terms would for sure be best.

Thank you very much!

Mm

Sorry answering this in a bit of a hurry as I rush out the door so I may not have read your question correctly...

However, my first take on this is, you need to use the website option (in PayPal) and you need to use the PayPal IPN (look for info on that in your account) using the IPN does in fact ask you to supply a "thank you" page.

You will create a page on your wordpress site called something along the lines of "thank you for your purchase" and of course you can put what is needed on there and then exclude the page from your navigation menus (however, if you go to edit pages and click to edit, then view the page, you can make a note of the URL for that page for entering into the PayPal IPN info.

If you do not have the wordpress plugin called "Exclude Pages from navigation" or very close to that title, then advise getting it - go to PLUGINS - ADD NEW and then type that into the search, you can install from that screen.

What that does is puts a box on the right hand side of the editing/wysiwyg screen when creating or editing a page and you tick or untick the little box to either Include or Exclude that page from the navigation menus.

Sorry if that is not what you mean, if so, I am sure someone else will be along to advise you and I will check back here later to see if you need more help.

    Cheers
    Sue

Thank you Sue for your reply!

I'm not sure that will do the trick though. I'm having problems putting any kind of button on wordpress that has a redirect with it.

I'm not sure but I think that requires a little Java script to do the redirect and that is the problem. Wordpress does not allow any scripts like that because of security issues.

I will check furthur into what you have said and see what I can do with it. As I have it now I have a page as a subdomain as the thank you page and it isn't a wordpress page. I made the thank you page with Kompozer and I just wanted paypal to send the paid customer to that Kompozer site.

From doing my searching online it seems it is a conflict between PayPal and Wordpress as PayPal needs to use some script and Wordpress does not allow it.

I'm still learning so I could be completely and totally wrong about this but that is what it seems to me.

From what I've read tons of Warrior's are using Wordpress so there has got to be a better way than having to send a link to the thank you page every time someone makes a purchase.

      Thanks very much!

Well as far as I can tell I've got it to work. When you generate the code for your website for your button you also have a choice to get the code for email.

I found a paypal button that I like and put the image into my site. I then attached the email code from paypal to that image and it seems to work.

This stuff is a lot different than anything I've learned in all my years in automotive but I'm learning!

        Thanks very much!
